Roel Flores is a native of the Rio Grande Valley.  He attended Edcouch-Elsa High School, where he studied under Gualberto Besinaiz.  While in the high school band, he earned numerous awards, including the All-Valley Band for five consecutive years and the Texas All-State Symphonic Band, where he placed 9th chair.

 He attended the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, and studied trumpet under Dr. Charles Gates.  At Ole Miss, he was a member of the Ole Miss Rebel Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble, and The Collegiates, (jazz band).  As a member of the Ole Miss Wind Ensemble, he traveled abroad and performed in England and Ireland. He attended Ole Miss from 1988 to 1992 and completed his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Texas at Pan-American in Edinburg in 1995 where he studied trumpet under Dr. Dean Canty. 

     After he received his Bachelor of Arts in Music, he taught in the Rio Grande Valley.  Currently, he is the Assistant Band Director at Salvador Garcia Middle School in Rio Bravo, Texas.  

     He is also an alumni member of the Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps.  Flores was influenced early on by great trumpet players such as Chuck Mangione, Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval and Allen Vizzutti.

     To complement his infinite love of music, he is an avid arranger and composer.  He has written music for such groups as jazz band, mariachi, marching band, and brass quintets.  He is a member of several professional musical groups including Ennergy Live Band, Mariachi America, and Orchestra Universal of McAllen.  He also serves as a studio musician in Laredo.
