Here are some common misconceptions about self-harm and the truth behind them.
Self-harm is a sign of craziness

No, not at all. While occasionally self-harm can accompany a mental disorder it does not immediately indicate one is present.
Self-harm is attention seeking

Not usually. Most SIers are dealing with serious pain on the inside.
Self-harm is a failed suicide attempt

Hardly ever. Usually SIers feel they are keeping themselves alive by harming themselves intentionally.
People who self-injure are masochists.

Um, no. SI is used as a coping mechanism not to give sexual pleasure.
