=========================== Repairing A Broken Warp Thread =========================== § What to do when a warp thread breaks? Here's a classic method of repair. - A few inches behind the fell, (towards the breast beam), insert a T-pin or sturdy straight pin. Go down and back up one time. Make it parallel with the fell line and inline with the broken warp end. - Cut a new piece of warp about 2 times longer than the depth of the loom. - Secure one end of the new warp to the T-pin by winding it around the pin in a figure 8 pattern. - Thread the other end of the new warp through the heddles and reed. Run it over the back beam and add a weight. Try to get a good tension, but not so much that the fell line is badly distorted. - Now weave another 8-10 inches. - Insert a second pin into the woven fabric, locating it a few inches behind the new fell line, and lined up with the replacement warp. - Re-thread the original/broken warp through the heddles and reed. - Wrap it securely around the pin. Try to get about the same tension as the rest of the warp. - Weave a couple more inches. - Remove the weight from the replacement warp then cut it, leaving about 6-8 inches. - Finish weaving the rug. - After the rug is removed from the loom, use a needle to weave the loose ends back into the rug.
