================= Thicker Rugs ================= § >>I am using a plain weave. My concern is the finished product seems rather light and thin. What can I do to get a thicker rug and heavier rug? Would thinner or wider strips make a difference? Or do I need a heavier material? Thanks Bill << Wider strips / thicker material is an option, but you can also affect (and effect) the thickness with the weave structure. Assuming a straight draft, (1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4...), treadling it as 2/2 twill (12 23 34 41) will give a thicker rug than using the same materials and plain weave. You can really thicken it up using a blanket / double weave. Here's one I've used with a straight draft. If you use two shuttles/colors, you can get a double sided effect with this treadling. 1 (shuttle 1) 123 (shuttle 2) 2 (shuttle 1) 124 (shuttle 2) 3 (shuttle 1) 134 (shuttle 2) 4 (shuttle 1) 234 (shuttle 2) one of the variations 1 234 2 134 3 124 4 123 Rod § |
