======================== THREE SHUTTLE WEAVING ======================== I first learned the 3-shuttle technique from an article titled "Rag Rug Weaving in the Finnish Tradition" in Weaver's magazine, issue #16, 1st Quarter 1992. There is a diagram there that shows how to do it. Start by throwing shuttle 1 from the left and place it on the woven cloth in front of you. Throw shuttle 2 from the right and place it on the rug so that shuttle 1 is closer to you and shuttle 2 is closer to the beater. Throw shuttle 3 from the left and place it on the rug closest to the beater. Now shuttle 1 is ready to be thrown from the right. Continue using the shuttles in order 1, 2, 3, and the sides will automatically alternate. You will always throw the shuttle that is closest to you and after the shuttle is thrown, it is always placed on the rug closest to the beater. At all times you should have one weft on one side and two wefts on the other side. The next shuttle is always thrown from the side with two wefts. If you always throw the shuttle that is closest to you and then put the shuttle down farthest from you after you've thrown it, the wefts will wrap around each other making a very nice firm edge.
