===================== What's a "Shed Regulator" ===================== (for CB / Counter Balance Loom ) The regulator gives a 4 harness CB loom 14 normal sheds like a Jack or a Countermarch loom has. Without a regulator a Counterbalance 4 harness loom has 6 normal sheds. Not every CB weaver needs a regulator, nor wants one, it's just an option, a tool. Be not afraid of the Shed Regulator - We used one ( built it natch ! ) on our 45" CB and it worked well. It was invented by Stanley A. Zielinski and later sold to Leclerc, who also publishes Stan's Master Weaver series in a smaller format ( good info there ). Simply put, the shed regulator for the Counterbalance loom allows the entire set of rollers to raise and lower when a 1/3 shed is opened, which changes the shaft heights. It's also used for some double weaves. I noted on some sheds there was a slight decrease in the shed size but it wasn't noticible while weaving and it didn't effect me. The regulator also allows one to change the CB loom into a reverse jack loom or use more than one treadle at a time. Pretty neat ! There were two models of the regulator and they both work. Lock the regulator when not using a weave that requires it and you'll never notice it's there. The shed regulator is pictured in the newer edition of "Master Weaver" by S.A.Zielinski, pub. by Nilus LeClerc Inc., Volume 6, pages 29 through 37. The booklet is titled "Technology of Handweaving ".
