I always double sley the last 2 dents on my rugs, so when I cut off the rugs, I simply re-sley the middle 4 threads so they are doubled - this also gives you an opening for your shuttles.  Then I weave placemats and runners to match my rugs.  I use rags, mop cotton, Pendleton worms, etc. Cathy Moomaw
