Apologies
Fourteen year old Malik stood on the deck of the ship,
gripping the Millennium Rod in his hand.
He sighed, rubbing a fresh bruise on the back of his neck.
His yami had heard that they were leaving for
Malik sighed sadly as he looked across the ocean. “The ocean is so beautiful. It’s just like I
imagined it. I just wish we didn’t have
to leave it.”
//You’ll have to go to your cabin sooner or later, little one.//
Malik cringed as he heard his dark side talk to him. /What
did I do?/
//I’m not done with you yet!//
Malik sniffled and shuddered. /I won’t go back to my room,
Marik! I don’t want to!/
The dark side growled in his soulroom. The ocean began to swirl. The deck almost
seemed to lift from under his feet. His eyesight blurred and he felt his head
swim in a daze.
He closed his eyes as the floating sensation continued. When
he opened his eyes, he was in his room down below.
“How did I get here?”
He jumped back as Marik appeared.
Marik grabbed Malik’s collar. “Why are we on this Ra-forsaken
vessel?”
Malik’s face went pale. “My sister and I are going to
Marik growled, slapping Malik across the face. “We’re
supposed to stay in
Malik rubbed his cheek. “I don’t know where Bakura is, Marik!
I don’t even know who Bakura Osiris Itemri is!”
Marik glared at his lighter half. “Don’t…play dumb with me,
hikari. We’re leaving for
Marik paced around the room angrily. “I’ve waited five
thousand years to find Bakura! I’ve waited five thousand years to be freed from
the Millennium Rod! I’ve had other hikaris, but none as useless as you, Malik Ramses Ishtar!”
Malik curled up in a ball as he watched his angry yami pace.
“I’ve had hikaris from all backgrounds….I’ve been a prisoner
of this Rod for five thousand years and I have not yet found my former lover! AND WHOSE FAULT IS IT THAT I HAVE NOT FOUND
BAKURA YET? HUH?”
Malik brushed away a tear. “Mine,” he said quietly.
“WHOSE? I CAN’T HEAR YOU, YOU WORTHLESS LITTLE BOY!”
Malik declared, “MINE! It’s my fault you haven’t found
Bakura!”
Marik grinned. “Why is that?”
Malik sobbed. “Because I’m worthless!”
“You bet you are, hikari! It’s all you’re fault I was placed in this
Rod! It’s all your fault I’ve had to wander the Shadow
Realm for ages! It’s all
your fault because you are a pathetic, worthless, useless little
creature!”
Malik hung his head. “You’re right, Marik……”
Marik hovered over his crying light. “I am right, Malik
Ishtar. You will have to live with what you are….spineless!”
“Yes, Marik.”
Marik watched as the teen cried and curled up into a
ball. “Look at you! Crying! Crying like an
infant!”
Marik grabbed his hikari’s arm roughly. “Stop crying!”
Malik let out a whimper and covered his mouth to force
himself to stop crying.
Marik growled and pressed Malik to the wall with the
Millennium Rod and punched his face with the other clenched fist.
Malik’s body shivered as his fear ran through him. Marik laughed with his characteristic eye
twitch as he felt how afraid his hikari was. “Are you afraid of me, my little
toy?”
Malik quickly nodded. “Yes,” he whimpered.
Marik grabbed Malik and threw him into the opposite wall,
head first. Malik fell on his knees, grabbing his head.
Marik slammed the Millennium Rod against Malik’s back with
fury. “It’s your fault we’re leaving
Malik whimpered as he laid on his
side, clutching himself and trembling with fear.
“Get on your knees, my little toy!”
Malik struggled to his knees.
Marik slapped him. “What do you say for yourself?”
A tear fell down Malik’s cheek. “I deserve this.”
“Is there something you would like to ask me?”
Malik looked up at his furious yami and answered him the way
he had been “trained.” “May…May I have another….master?”
Marik grinned. “With pleasure.”
A final slap sent Malik unconscious on the floor.
Marik threw the Rod down and disappeared into with a
satisfied sigh.
“Could my Millennium Necklace be wrong about the presence in
the Rod? I allowed Malik to have it
because of my vision. I see that my
Necklace has tricked me. But, how is that possible?”
She ran to get a cold cloth for her brother’s forehead.
She brushed Malik’s cheek gently, her eyes tearing at the
sight of the large bruise on his cheek.
“My poor brother…..I am sorry.”
***************************
Ryou was thrown back
into the wall by the furious fiend. He
slid down the wall, holding his swollen shoulder.
Ryou looked up at the spiky-haired yami. “I’m so sorry, Bakura! Please!”
Bakura seethed angrily. “You had better be sorry! You should be sorry for more than burning
dinner! You should apologize to me for your very existence! Say it!”
Ryou lowered his head, sobbing again. Ryou had moved to
“You pathetic little coward!
Say it!” Bakura picked up the crying teen and slammed him against the
wall. He slapped Ryou hard across the
face. “We’ve gone out every night to search for the Millennium Rod! And still we haven’t found it! It’s your fault that we haven’t found the
Millennium Rod yet! And I won’t stop
looking for it no matter how many lives I have to take!”
Ryou quivered, faced with the wrath of his other half.
Bakura’s canines sharpened and his voice lowered to just
above a whisper. “Ryou, you are so
fucking…..useless. Aren’t you?”
Ryou sniffled. “Yes,” he responded.
“I wonder what I did to deserve such a worthless, useless,
pathetic thing such as yourself.”
Ryou wiped away the tears from his eyes.
Bakura stroked Ryou’s bruised cheek gently. The yami spoke
almost lovingly. “Now, my little thing,
I want you to apologize to me. Apologize
for your very existence.”
Ryou remained quiet, unable to get the words out.
Bakura’s eyes narrowed. “You’re not going to apologize to me?”
Ryou lowered his head, avoiding Bakura’s eyes.
“I have ways of making you apologize to me for your existence,
Ryou. It looks like I’ll have to go to
more….drastic measures.”
Ryou’s heart sank into his chest.
Bakura leaned into him. “I have ways of making you regret
that you have ever dropped out of your mother’s womb.”
Ryou felt his yami’s claws dig into his skin and throw him
over the side of the couch….
