Steven tried to kill his own son for being gay.

Anzu and the Aquarium

Robbie turned to look at Aten cowering beside him. Robbie wrapped his arm around Aten. “What’s wrong, Aten?”

Aten’s eyes widened at horror at the brainless sack of flesh standing in front of him.

Anzu gasped. “OOOO!! IT’S OUR KID, SETO!”

Seto narrowed his eyes. “Hayden is not your son, Anzu!”

Anzu turned her head to the side, her tiny, miniature brain still trying to understand his simplistic message. “But, I danced naked for you at Marik’s friendly bachelor party and the next time I saw you, you had that little boy! You didn’t even know it was me dancing for you until I threw off all my veils! DANCING NAKED IS LIKE FRIENDSHIP! YEAH FRIENDSHIP!”

Joey rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Anzu, you are not Hayden’s mother, so, just go away. Let’s go.”

“I’m your friendly-wendly tour guide! Let me show you the little fishies!”

Miranda turned to Seto and for the first time since she knew him, she actually pitied him. “I’m sorry for all I’ve ever done to you, Seto.”

Seto groaned. “Let’s just get this done with so I can go home and take a long, hot bath.”

Anzu lead them to the Lionfish. “These are cutsy-wootsie Lionfish! I remember when I was in the zoo and the lions were chewing on me! Oh! They were so friendly I just want to squish them until they stopped breathing!”

Miranda raised an eyebrow as Robbie and Aten slowly moved to clutch onto her legs. “How did you survive being chewed on by lions?”

Anzu wrapped her arms around her body and hugged herself tightly. “I don’t know! They chewed me until I was all red from bleeding and friendship! Then I think they got tired from showing me how friendly they were because they went away and fell asleep! Pretty kitties are like friendship! Is there anything you cutsie-wootsie chibis want to see?”

Aten’s eyes filled with tears as she leaned down to look at them closely. Aten looked into Anzu’s eyes and saw nothing behind them. No brain. No intelligence. Nothing.

Aten’s bottom lip quivered. “I wan my mommy,” the chibi Egyptian boy whimpered.

Aria snarled at Anzu’s scary smile. “Get away from my brother, crazy lady!” Aria’s white spiky hair twitched in frustration.

Robbie buried his face in Miranda’s leg. “I don’t want to do my project on whales anymore!”

Anzu squealed so loudly, it was amazing the glass in the aquarium didn’t shatter. “CUTE WHALES? I can take you to the friendliest whale of them all! Follow me!”

Anzu skipped in circles as she lead the group to the whale tank.

Joey shook his head and turned to Seto. “You know, she’s making me crave a drink really bad about now.”

Seto sighed. “I could use a nice stiff drink myself.”

Hayden gripped onto Seto tightly. “Mr. Kaiba, don’t let go of me and make the scary girl come near me.”

“She won’t come near you, Hayden.”

Anzu stopped suddenly and turned around screaming. “I CAN LOOK LIKE A FISH!”

Anzu did her impression of a fish and Aten clutched his heart.

“My heart!” Aten whimpered as he grabbed his chest.

Robbie gasped in panic. He fanned Aten with his hand. “Breathe, Aten! Breathe!”

Joey and Seto brought Aten over to a chair and let the boy catch his breath.

Joey turned to Anzu. “Anzu, you can’t scare Aten like that! He has a bad heart!”

Anzu smiled blankly, her feeble brain struggling to comprehend the meaning of the simple concepts. “Heart? HEARTS ARE SO FRIENDLY! They represent love which is also like friendship! Just like Seto-poo loves me!”

Anzu wrapped her tentacle-like arms around Seto and squeezed his waist.

The CEO screamed while Miranda covered her mouth laughing. He was quickly losing his temper over the girl.

“Anzu, when we get out of here, I’m going to shove a swordfish up your---.”

“Unkie Seto?” Aten said holding the front of his pants with both hands. Seto stopped and looked down at the chibi with large brown and purple eyes. “Unkie Seto, I have to go potty.”

Seto looked at Joey. “Aten’s on water pills now. Come on, little monkey. Let’s find you a bathroom.”

Aria held the front of her dress. “I have to go to the bathroom, too. Unkie Seto, can you come with me?”

Seto shuddered. “No, honey. I’m a man. I can’t go in there. Miranda, can you take her?”

Anzu watched the group separate into their respective washrooms. Anzu looked at the two restrooms. Because her brain was not evolved to decipher a male and female figure, she picked one.

She followed Seto into the men’s bathroom.

“BATHROOMS ARE LIKE FRIENDSHIP!”

Aten and Robbie’s heads shot to the left and they froze.

Joey stood beside Aten. “Ignore her, Aten.”

“Anzu, you in the boy’s potty!” Aten yelled at her angrily.

Hayden stood beside Robbie. He narrowed his eyes at the girl. “A girl can’t be in a boy’s bathroom!”

Anzu came behind Seto and wrapped her arms around Seto. She squeezed him tightly.

Joey jumped at Seto’s screech. Donny was about to tackle Anzu when Seto growled and brought back his elbow into Anzu’s cheek, making her lip bleed.

“OO!! I’m bleeding again! Yeah!”

Joey turned and pointed to the door. “Get the hell out of here until we are done!”

Anzu skipped merrily to the bathroom mirror to admire her “friendly bleeding lip,” as she called it.

The boys finished, washed their hands, and left with Anzu following them.

Miranda held Aria’s hand. “What took you boys so long?”

Anzu pointed to her lip. “I was hugging Seto as he was doing his friendly business and I squeezed him so hard because I love him and I want little Seto babies! I want an army of baby Setos!”

Seto poked her angrily. “Anzu, you should never even think of reproducing!”

Anzu wrapped her arms around Seto like a boa constrictor. “REPRODUCTION IS LIKE FRIENDSHIP!!! BABIES ARE FRIENDLY!”

Robbie looked at Aten. “I don’t want a baby like her.”

Aten shook his head and cringed. “I don’t wan a baby at all.”

Anzu leaned her scary, happy face down to Robbie. “You want a baby??? Aww….THAT’S SO FRIENDLY OF YOU!”

Anzu grabbed Robbie and clutched him to her chest. Robbie started to gag as Miranda grabbed Anzu’s arm.

“Let go of my son!”

Aten growled and grabbed Anzu’s leg, kicking it.

“Let go of Robbie!” Aten snarled and bit Anzu in her bare leg, the chibi drawing blood from her leg.

Aria watched Anzu’s leg drip with blood and her eyes narrowed. Her hair spiked and her twitched.

Seto saw the Sennen Eye appear on the chibi’s forehead. He saw her licking her lips as she looked at the trickling blood.

“Joey! Bloodthirsty chibi!”

Seto grabbed Aria before she could attach herself to the bleeding idiot. “No blood for you, chibi yami!”

Aria snarled. “Seth, let me go!”

Joey and Seto’s eyes widened. They saw the chibi’s body tremble with anticipation at the smell of blood.

Joey shook his head. “Dear gods, she’s just like her father! Someone bleeds and she goes crazy!”

Miranda pulled Robbie from Anzu’s grasp. Robbie brushed himself off with a horrified look on his face. “Oh no! GIRL COOTIES! GET ‘EM OFF! GET ‘EM OFF!”

Anzu jumped up and down. “Yeah! I hugged a chibi!”

Robbie narrowed his eyes at her. “I don’t like girls touching me!”

Aten wrapped his arms around Robbie and rubbed Robbie’s short, black hair. “It’s otay, Robbie.”

Robbie put his arms around Aten. He snuggled into Aten’s hair. “This is much better.”

Aria’s hair relaxed a little as Seto held her hand.

“Anzu,” Joey said, “We’re going to look around on our own. Don’t follow us.”

Anzu smiled blankly at Joey as she heard Joey say in her pea-sized brain, “If you stay with us, you’ll be friendly and happy and happy bunnies will come see you and we love your friendly friendliness.”

They walked the kids around and Robbie stopped in front of a window where a few dozen fish were swimming.

“Hey, Aten! Come here! Kissing Fish!”

Aten ran over to the window. “Tissing Fiss?”

“K-issing Fi-sh! Isn’t that cute?”

Aten looked at Robbie. “Do they asshually tiss?”

Robbie shrugged. “I don’t know. Hey, mommy, do Kissing Fish actually kiss?”

Miranda shrugged. “I don’t know, baby.”

Aten looked up at her. “Do the boy Tissing Fiss only tiss the girl Tissing Fiss? Or tan the boy Tissing Fisses tiss another boy Tissing Fiss?”

Aria looked over at Robbie. “The boy Kissing Fish kisses a girl Kissing Fish. Then they have babies. Right, Unkie Seto?”

Seto turned red. “Well, umm….sure, why not.”

Aten looked over at Aria. “No, Aria! Tissing no mates the girl Tissing Fiss have babies! The boy Tissing Fiss kisses the girl Tissing Fiss. They go find a home together. Then they have sex and then the girl Tissing Fiss gets really fat with babies and then she throws them up.”

Miranda and Joey covered their mouths trying not to laugh. Seto was becoming more pale as the conversation drew on.

Aria turned to her brother. “No, Aten! Women don’t throw up their babies! They kiss, have sex, then the babies come out of the fish’s vagina! Babies come out of the vagina! Mommy told me so! Isn’t that right, Unkie Puppy?”

Aria crossed her arms across her chest, intensely proud of herself.

Joey wiped the tears of laughter coming to his eyes. “Yes, baby girl.”

“See, Aten? Only girls have vaginas like me and Robbie’s mommy because that’s where the baby comes from!”

A loud thump was heard behind Aria.

Seto had fainted.

Joey kneeled before Seto. “Oh no! Seto fainted!”

Miranda fanned Seto. Donny pulled out some smelling salts and put them under Seto’s nose.

“Unkie Seto, are you okay?” Aria asked as she pulled at his shirt.

Hayden kneeled beside Seto as Seto opened his eyes. “Mr. Kaiba, are you okay? Say something.”

“I’m okay, Hayden,” Seto moaned as he rubbed his head.

Donny and Joey helped Seto stand up. Seto wavered for a moment until he gained his balance.

“Let’s move on…please?”

Seto grabbed Joey’s hand as they made it to the swordfish. Anzu followed behind them singing about how friendly the ground was to catch Seto as he fainted.

Robbie and Aten gripped each other’s hands tightly as they looked into the swordfish tank.

A loud voice called from behind them. “HELLO, MY FRIENDS!”

Aria turned around as she immediately recognized the voice. “Umi!”

Mako was standing at the dolphin window.

“Hello, Mako!” Joey called and waved to him.

Mako turned and ran after them, noticing his child was gone.

Aria and Umi ran to each other and hugged. Umi planted a little kiss on Aria’s cheek.

“How’s my little mermaid?” Umi asked.

Aria blushed and giggled. “We’re here to look at whales for Robbie and Hayden’s project.”

Anzu leaned down. “LOOK AT THE CHIBI MAKO!!! COME HERE YOU!”

Aria shrieked and her fingernails became razor sharp. She stepped in front of Umi before Anzu could grab him. “Stay away from my boyfriend!”

Mako grabbed Anzu. “Get away from my kid, you bothersome sea urchin!”

Anzu saw the swordfish swimming and she ran into a door by the window.

“How have you been, Mako?”

“I brought the little minnow to do his report on Dolphins. I took him out to see to speak to the free ones and I thought it would be a nice change to have him talk to the dolphins here at the aquarium.”

Miranda’s eyes widened at Mako’s bare chest and his sculpted body. ‘I wouldn’t mind sailing into open waters with him! Look at that body!’ she thought. She shook her head. Miranda suddenly realized she had missed Daniel more than ever.

“You can talk to dolphins, Umi?” Miranda asked him.

Umi chuckled like his father. “Of course! I’m Umi Aquarius Tsunami! Prince of the Ocean Tides! My Daddy’s Little Minnow!”

Seto shivered. “The less I hear about Mako’s ‘little minnow,’ the better.”

Mako laughed. “My Little Minnow is strong! Powerful! Majestic! Proud! Hard as--”

Seto held out his hand. “Please, Mako, I already fainted once today!”

Aten and Robbie wandered a few windows away.

Aria smiled at Umi. “Who is your project partner?”

Umi sighed and shook his head. “Since our partners were picked by secret ballot, I didn’t get who I wanted.”

“Who’s your partner?”

Umi took Aria’s hand. “Eric Barnes.”

Aten and Robbie were looking at sting-rays.

“They’re funny looting, aren’t they, Robbie?”

Robbie giggled. “Yeah, but my mommy said that all people and animals look like they do for a reason.”

Aten looked at his Egyptian tan skin. “I wonder why my stin is so much darter than yours.”

“Your daddy has darker skin, right? That’s why.”

“My mommy has light stin. My sister has really white stin.”

Robbie squeezed Aten’s hand. “I like your skin. It’s so much darker than mine and different.”

Before they could react, both boys found their cheeks pressed to the window. A tight fist grabbed Aten’s hair and pressed his cheek hard against the glass. Robbie felt a hand on the back of his neck.

“Well, well, if it isn’t the two lovebirds, Robbie Morgan and Aten Ishtar!”

Robbie tried to reach behind him to grab his attacker, but his attacker moved back out of range.

“Eric….let…go!”

Eight year old Eric Barnes laughed. “I would have thought that you two thumb-suckers would be home playing with your dollies and tea-sets!”

Aten’s body froze as he was pinned against the glass. Aten closed his eyes tightly as he heard his grandfather’s voice in his head. ‘Hold him down, Tim, while I get our little toy something to keep us from hearing him scream.’

Aten closed his eyes tightly whimpering, “I’ll be good. I’ll be good.”

Eric held Aten to the glass harder. “What the fuck is wrong with you, Ishtar?”

Robbie felt his grasp become a little loose and he let out a cry. “DONNY!”

Donny turned his head and saw Aten and Robbie pinned against the glass. Donny ran towards them and Eric gasped.

“See you two freaks later!” Eric ran away to his mother.

Aten collapsed on the ground and pulled his knees up to his chin.

Robbie grabbed Aten’s arm. “Aten? He’s gone.”

Aten looked around. “He is? My grandfather and Tim are gone?”

Robbie shrugged. “Tim? Aten, there was never a Tim here.”

“You sure, Robbie?”

“Yeah. Your grandfather isn’t here either. Just you, me, and Donny.”

Donny kneeled in front of Aten. “Aten, are you okay, son?”

Aten reached for Donny. He grabbed him and pulled Donny down to him. “Will you keep Tim and my grandfather away from me? Please?”

Donny nodded. “Okay, Aten. I’ll keep them away. Come back to the group, Aten.”

Aten clutched onto Robbie and Donny’s hand as they returned to the group.

Umi sighed. “Yeah, I was placed with Eric. I hate that brat! I should feed him to the sharks someday! Then again, he may make the sharks sick.”

Joey looked at the Egyptian chibi clinging to Robbie. “Aten, are you feeling okay?”

Aten nodded. “Yes.”

Joey turned to Seto. “We should hurry this up, Seto. Aten looks paler than usual. Besides, we have to take the kids to the hospital for their blood work.”

Seto nodded. “Mako, we have to go.”

Mako took Umi’s hand. “Goodbye, then, my good friends!”

Umi turned and blew a kiss to Aria.

Seto and Joey walked Hayden and Aria to the swordfish tank.

Miranda kneeled in front of Aten. She stroked his cheek and felt his forehead. “Baby, you don’t look so good. You feeling okay?”

“Eric just pushed us against the window where the sting-rays are.”

Miranda had known about Aten’s encounters with his grandfather. Telling Robbie about Aten’s abuse was out of the question. Robbie would know when the time was right.

Aten’s demeanor told her that he just had a slight flashback and was visibly shaken.

“It’s okay, Aten. Do you need to sit down?”

“No. I don’t want to sit,” Aten said shivering.

Miranda took Robbie’s hand and lead them to the swordfish enclosure.

Inside, they looked at the swordfish.

Aten’s eyes widened at the fish. “Wow! Look at their noses! It’s really long!”

“That’s why they call them sword fish! Their noses look like swords!”

They walked to the next window and saw Anzu in one of the windows.

Seto gasped. “What the hell is she doing in there?”

The group saw Anzu swimming with the piranha. The piranha surrounded her and

started biting her.

“YEAH! THIS IS SO FRIENDLY!”

The adults covered the kids’ eyes as the piranha’s razor-sharp teeth cut into her flesh.

“Aww….they’re tearing my flesh off! This is such a friendly, warm feeling! YEAH FRIENDSHIP! These little fishies love me because I preach the word of friendship, love, and HAPPY PUPPIES!”

Seto and Joey rolled their eyes and walked to the map of the aquarium to look for the whales.

Joey took a small bag of M&M’s and gave some to Aria. He shoved a handful into his mouth.

“I’m so addicted to these,” Joey said.

“It’s better than drinking, Joey. That’s what Dr. Chapman says.”

Aten looked up at Joey. “I have to see Dotor Tapman nest week.”

When they were looking at the whales, Anzu walked up to them, piranhas still clinging to her.

“That was so much fun! OOO!” Anzu looked over at a large tank of electric eels. She jumped into the tank of electric eels.

“OUCH! THESE…OW! EELS ARE LIKE FRIENDSHIP!”

Seto groaned. “Kill me now. Please. Someone knock me out.”

Joey sighed and looked up. They were having a show on whales in the aquarium stadium. They stood outside the stadium. The show would not be until later, so they took a brochure for Hayden and Robbie’s project.

Aten used the washroom again and they left the aquarium, knowing that the hospital would take them some time.

Seto and Joey went to the hospital. Aten waved to the doctors and nurses who passed by.

Katie saw him and ruffled his hair. “Back again for your blood test, cutie?”

Aten nodded. “Yes. I hope I tan get a lemon lollipop if I’m a good boy.”

Katie laughed. “I know needles scare you, baby, but you know your heart needs them to be happy and healthy.”

“I need my heart to be happy or I’m going to die. I don’t want that to happen.”

Robbie bit his lip and gripped onto his mother’s hand tightly.

“Well, you go get your blood taken. Tell Beatrice that you want a lemon lollipop. She’ll give you a lemon one.”

Aten jumped up and down. “I’m gonna get a lollipop! I’m gonna get a lollipop!”

Seto and Joey never saw a child so excited to go through a blood test. Hayden hated blood tests.

Seto was worried how Aria was going to take the blood test and if she would go yami on the nurse.

Dr. Zira approached them in the hallway. “Aria! Have you decided to give blood for your brother?”

Aria nodded. “Aten is my brother and I love him. I don’t want him to die if he has no blood.”

Zira nodded. “Okay. Wise decision. Do you know where you have to go, Aten?”

Aten nodded. “I know where the room is.”

Zira pat the child’s cheek. “He’s been here so many times, he can take you to the blood work area blindfolded. Go on, Aten. They are waiting for you and your sister.”

Aten lead the group to the office. Seto stepped up to the desk. “Aten Bakari Ishtar is here for his blood work. Dr. Zira wants Aria’s blood taken.”

The nurse leaned over. “Hello, Aten.”

“Hello.”

“Aria….What is her last name?”

“Itemri.”

The nurse looked through the file. “She’s never been here. When is her date of birth?”

“September 29^th, 2001.”

“Parents. I know Ryou Thomas Bakura is the mother. That’s no secret at this hospital. Who is her biological father?”

“Bakura Osiris Itemri.”

“Sex…female. Do you have her insurance card, Mr. Kaiba?”

Seto shook his head. “No.”

The nurse shrugged. “It’s okay. Since she was never here, we have to start a file for her. Next time Ryou comes in, we’ll get it. Go in through the doors, Mr. Kaiba. Beatrice is waiting.”

Miranda, Robbie, and Hayden waited outside for Aten and Aria to be done.

Kaiba held Aria’s hand as they entered the room. Joey held onto Aten as the nurse took Aten’s file.

“Hello, Aten. I’m Beatrice.”

Aten smiled. “Hello, Bee-ticks! I haven’t teen you here before.”

Beatrice shook her head. She was told by the other nurses that Aten had dyslexia and had a difficult time with people names and his speech was unpredictable. Sometimes, he had been known to be talking in English, then switch without warning to Arabic. He never noticed, but many of the nurses had to correct him, saying they couldn’t understand him when he spoke Arabic.

“I’m new here. My name is Beatrice Cinetti. But, you can just call me ‘Bea’ if you want.”

Seto and Joey gasped. “You are a Cinetti?”

Beatrice put Aten on the table and had him lay down. She put the latex tourniquet on his right arm and removed three vials from the drawer and a cotton ball from the glass bottle.

“Yes. My husband is Tom Cinetti.”

Aria watched Beatrice’s every move as she took her brother’s blood.

“Tom is dead, isn’t he?”

Beatrice narrowed her eyes. “He disappeared before he could sign the divorce papers. Nobody knows what happened to him. Nobody even knows what happened to my son, Tim Cinetti.”

Aten was too busy looking at a monkey poster in the room to acknowledge the mention of one of his assailants.

When Beatrice was done, she put Aria on the table and put the tourniquet on her arm.

“This hurts,” Aria growled.

Beatrice touched her arm, looking for a vein. “I don’t miss either of them, though. I’m better off without either of them.”

Beatrice took another three vials of blood from Aria and gave them both Band Aids.

“I would lite a lemon lollipop, peas,” Aten said smiling up at her.

“I want a grape!” Aria squealed happily.

Beatrice gave them their lollipops. “Wait a minute! Ryou Thomas Bakura is their mother?”

Joey took Aten’s hand. “Yes, it’s time we got going.”

“Ryou Bakura? The white-haired boy with brown eyes? He lived close to me and my family.”

Seto took Aria’s hand. “Yes. Aten and Aria are his kids. Goodbye!”

Seto and Joey wanted to avoid the complicated questions they were not entitled to answer. They also did not want to give the woman more information than she needed to know.

Seto and Joey dropped Miranda and Robbie home. Robbie and Hayden agreed to meet during lunch on Monday to discuss their project. Robbie played with his tanks as Miranda started dinner.

Miranda peeled carrots when Robbie walked into the kitchen. “Mommy? Is Aten really going to die?”

Miranda looked down at her son with a trembling lip. “Robbie, I know this is hard for you to understand.”

“But, Aten is a good kid! Aten is my friend!”

“I know he is, son,” she said kissing Robbie on the cheek. “But, heaven may want him back. I know you like Aten, sweetheart. He’s your best friend.”

Robbie nodded. “He’s my bestest friend ever. I don’t want anyone but Aten. I don’t need anyone else but Aten.”

“I know, sweetheart. It’s going to be okay.”

Miranda hugged Robbie reassuringly. She kissed him on the cheek.

“I love you, mommy.”

“I love you, too, little soldier.”

Someone knocked on the door and Miranda took Robbie’s hand. “Let’s see who’s at the door!”

Miranda took Robbie and opened the door. On the step stood a Navy officer with a bandaged arm and a foot in the cast. He was kept balanced by crutches. His uniform was decorated with many medals. He was in his late twenties with blue eyes like Robbie’s. He had short black hair under his white cap. In his one hand he held a bouquet of roses.

Robbie’s eyes widened and he squealed happily. “DADDY!”

Robbie wrapped his arms tightly around his father’s uninjured leg.

Daniel laughed. “Hey, little soldier!”

Daniel looked up at his wife. He extended his arm, offering her the roses. “I love you, Miranda.”

Miranda threw herself at Daniel, wrapping her arms around his waist. She buried her face into his chest and cried. Her entire body quaked with her sobs.

Daniel stroked her long hair. “Oh, Miranda! I’ve missed you, too!”

Daniel kissed her forehead. “I’ve missed you both so much!”

Miranda looked up at him, her green eyes wet with tears. “Daniel, I thought you were dead.”

Daniel reached down and pet his son’s head. “I couldn’t die, Miranda. I have too much to live for to leave you. I couldn’t leave you and Robbie. You both mean so much to me! I love you both.”

Miranda kissed Daniel on the lips passionately. “I love you, Daniel.”

Robbie sighed with contentment. “Me, too, daddy. I Love you!”

Daniel chuckled. “Let’s go inside, shall we? My foot is getting a little sore.”

Robbie helped his father to the couch. Robbie untied his father’s shoe and leaned his crutches against the couch.

Daniel opened his arms. “Come here, little soldier.”

Robbie cuddled up beside his father and sighed happily.

Daniel sighed and brought Robbie onto his lap. “Did you miss your daddy?”

Robbie nodded. “Yup! I sure did!”

Daniel rest his head on Robbie’s black hair. “I missed you, my son.”
