REVIEWS *JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS (2004) "La Hora del Blues" Radio Programm from http://www.lahoradelblues.com S. KASHIN / JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS / 2004 **** STARS(GOOD)
This cd has been conceived, recorded and produced in Russia by Sergei Kashin. Sergei is a singer and guitar player who fell in love with blues, although he comes from such a distant out of blues country. He really knows what he is doing and he cleverly plays blues with conviction and criteria, but in some punctual aspects he is a little bit limited. He is backed by good local musicians who give him the support to do an easy performing along the sixteen songs included on the cd, the majority blues covers (Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Big Maceo, Elmore James) but also some own compositions that give a more creative personal deep vision to the music he plays. BLUESMATTERS 25 ISSUE 2005 http://www.bluesmatters.com BLUE EARS RADIO (http://www.blueears.com/) We congratulate you with the talent and atmosphere you're able to bring over on those tracks...
*ON GIANTS' SHOULDERS...(2001) (from http://www.musig.com) S. KASHIN / ON GIANTS SHOULDERS / (2001) *** STARS(GOOD)
Sergey Kashin from Moscow is singlehandedly doing his part in Russia to keep the art form of the blues alive. This CD contains 11 tracks of well-known blues standards. I liked the rawness of this CD; in fact a few songs were recorded live and direct from the mixing board from concerts(with no overdubs). Mr. Kashin and friends do their best to emulate the great blues giants with surprising results. A mix of slow blues, slide numbers, & rocking shuffles keep things moving nicely. All songs courageously sung in English(this takes a bit to get used to, but who cares?) Feel the love! Favorite Tracks: IT HURTS ME TOO & 3 O'CLOCK BLUES

(from http://www.oocities.org/es/vzumel/) THE LABYRINTH 3&5 "DEEPEST GRIEF TOGETHER WITH ‘ALIVE’ COMPUTER" BumpNgrind Records
From the distant cold russian land comes this double cd, full of deep faith, spirit, enthousiasm and, specially, courage. It is the first time i have had the opportunity to listen to russian musicians play and mix blues with other musical styles closer to the country they come from than to the United States. It is at least surprising enjoy different versions such as ‘Further Up The Road’ or ‘Early in The Morning’ performed by these nine musicians who take turns along the 33 songs included on both cds. They sing in English and Russian and alternate some covers with most own compositions. They also include different instruments such as violins, flutes or percussions. As a curious thing mention that songs have not been recorded on an recording studio, they have mostly done it with computers which perhaps has made them loose a little feeling and spontaneity. Anyway we must give our congratulations to all people involved in this project for their enthousiasm in doing something new and different, and specially to Miss Cookie Holley, BumpNgrind Records owner, for believing in them, because these cds would have not been done without her priceless help and support. VERY GOOD.
(from http://www.bluesfreepress.org.uk) "ON GIANTS' SHOULDERS" VAV Records R-02-2001
Sergey hails from Moscow and is a respected Bluesman & guitarist who follows the of such greats as Freddie King, Eric Clapton, Peter Green etc etc. The 11 tracks featured here consist mainly of well known Blues & R&B standards with 2 numbers recorded live at Moscow's "Blues Summit Festival" and 1 recorded from a television broadcast in May 2000. The remaining 8 tracks are rehearsal studio recordings & show Sergey's regular cohorts (M Odintsov, gtr; V Agabekov, bass; V Ogayan, drums) in full swing with no overdubs. The material offered is varied with light & shade in the musicianship and a good sense of dynamics, Sergey achieves solid tone throughout with good feel & variance. The vocals are delivered (very bravely) in English, or nearby; only by the fact that the material is so familiar am I able to follow the thread of the lyrics. I have heard Blues sung effectively in French, Swedish, Suomi, Portugese, Wollof and several other languages, in each case the singer reached directly to his audience because the lyrics meant something to them, in their own language. Blues began as a vocal art-form and despite being usurped by Stratocasterists it is the vocal delivery which carries the message and the meaning. Soak it in moonshine vodka, give it reference to hard times and soft women, tell of bitter winters and red-hot summers, sing about poverty and injustice, of high times, low times, gangsters, gambling, infidelity and all of life's experiences... span> Judge Jones
