Hockey Stick -- Don't get CHECKED!

ECHL Press Release

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The ECHL and its member teams join the Milwaukee Admirals and the teams of the American Hockey League in mourning the loss of Kyle Schultz, who died unexpectedly at the age of 41 on Saturday.

He was play-by-play voice for Tallahassee of the ECHL in 1994-95 and the broadcaster and director of public relations for the Tiger Sharks from 1996-2000. He will be remembered for his call of a fight between the Tiger Sharks and the Louisiana IceGators that was featured in the Sports Disasters television documentary on The Learning Channel. Schultz was the broadcaster and director of public relations for Augusta from 2001-03 and during his time with the Lynx started the adult hockey "B" league awarding the Schultz Cup trophy to the winning team each season.

Schultz was in his third season as broadcaster for the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League, calling the team's first and only Calder Cup championship in 2004. He worked for the Utah Grizzlies in 1995-96 when the team captured the Turner Cup championship in the International Hockey League.

The ECHL and its member teams express their condolences to Kyle's family and friends.

Schultz is survived by wife Allison, five-year-old son Tanner, parents Leyton and Judith Schultz, brother Jud and sisters Tracey Austuria and Dana Schultz.

The funeral service is set for 1 p.m. on Thursday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1600 N. Genesee Road, Delafield, Wisconsin. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

A memorial fund has been set up at Arrowhead Youth Hockey where Kyle began his first year of coaching this season. Donations can be sent to: Arrowhead Youth Hockey c/o Kyle Schultz Memorial, P.O. Box 561, Hartland, WI 53029.
