Hockey Stick -- Don't get CHECKED!

Press Release

Lexington, KY - Meeting via conference call at 10:00 am EST this morning, The East Coast Hockey League Board of Governors approved a lease agreement with the Lexington Center Corporation, it was announced today by team co-owners, Jean Gagnon and Michel Cadrin. Today's agreement was the first step in relocating an ECHL team to Lexington.

The ECHL has 29 professional minor league teams throughout the south and midwest.

According to Jean Gagnon, the Lexington team does not yet have an AHL or NHL affiliate. "But," he says, "we are now working toward that goal."

Lexington hockey fans will have a stake in their new team from the very beginning with a "Name the Team" contest planned.

Season ticket information will be announced soon. Hockey fans can register on line for advance ticket information at www.rupparena.com/hockey.asp, or by calling the Rupp Arena Box Office at 859-233-3535.

Bill Owen, President/CEO of Lexington Center Corporation, said, "We are absolutely delighted that hockey is returning to Rupp Arena. It's good news for the fans and it's great news for the city."

The minor league team will play 36 home games in Rupp Arena and 36 away games in a season that runs from mid-October through early April. The first game of the season will be scheduled in the next ten days. A coaching staff and other key personnel will be named within the next 30 days. Team offices will be located on the second level of the Civic Center Shops.
