Macon Officially Done June 19, 2002

Several troubled ECHL clubs made their intentions known at the league meetings this week, and as expected, the Macon Whoopee will not operate in middle Georgia next season.

Macon owners, however, are considering relocating the franchise to one of a handful of other markets next season. One league source said Savannah is a possibility.

"They're trying to find a place to put (Macon)," Augusta's Pierson said. "That could happen in the next week."

Savannah is also being considered for an ACHL team, but that won't happen until the 2003-04 season and that they were not ready to host a team this season due to wiring problems in their building.

The Naples Daily News further reported:

"One positive sign that did emerge was that none of the 28 member teams asked to suspend operations for the 2002-03 season."

"Macon reportedly will be moving to Lexington, Ky., although there still are some details to be worked out."
