Cadillac's Sporty CTS       Cadillac CTS Honored As Motor Trend's 2008 Car Of The Year

Hot-selling sport sedan praised for design and technology

DETROIT - The editors at Motor Trend, one of the world's premiere automotive authorities, announced today that they have chosen the Cadillac CTS as the 2008 Motor Trend Car of the Year.

"Cadillac is truly honored to receive one of the world's most coveted automotive awards," says Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. "This is a very meaningful reward for our team that created the all-new 2008 CTS, and a powerful statement to consumers everywhere about Cadillac's product renaissance."

The Motor Trend Car of the Year honor highlights the wide acclaim the 2008 CTS sport sedan has earned around the world and with consumers since its launch earlier this fall. Luxury cars buyers are responding similarly,
with CTS U.S. sales jumping 140% so far this year... The full report from Motor Trend appears in the January issue of the magazine (on newsstands in early- December) and online at www.motortrend.com. Cadillac was the first automaker ever to win Motor Trend Car of the Year in the magazine's inaugural year of 1949, and again in 1952 and 1992.

An entirely new look to the car for 2008. The V will be later maybe next year, but for now, the CTS (Cadillac Touring, Sport)started life in 2002 as an '03 model. Initially it came out with a better version of the engine from Germany. A great car, I bought one for my daughter. Then the horsepower is 255 (260 was the pre-production figure). GM upgraded it from 3.2 to 3.6 with available with direct injection with 304 HP... I find that Rear Wheel Drive works great if you turn off the traction control. Able to keep up with anything.
The newer larger engine sells is very quiet. I personally like the larger one. But the 258 HP port injection is very, very quiet. There is a little more go with the direct injection one. This is an impressive car. Limited slip differential is included with the Sport Wheel package, I feel this is necessary to drive this car more securely.
Brakes are great.
The new interior is more roomy except for that seatbelt on the door frame instead of the seat which makes it a bit narrow for tall people. My shoulders press against it. I find that to be annoying. I guess I will not be sliding around that way.
The factory is pushing larger wheels these days. They think that they look better, allow for larger brakes, But where is the chrome? They give lower section height on the tires, and they do cost more, I do not think they ride as well. They do handle better, and now the cars I drove had Michelin tires (Thank God).
We still have a bit of over controlled engine management system. It used to be entirely too complicated for the average driver. Thanks guys, It is a lot better now.
The new instrumentation is very nice, but gagues ara bit small. The gauges need to be bigger. but they are easy to read. I prefer to have an analog clock the same size as a speedometer in the dash.
New wheels, enhancements to the interior which looks better, more wood, and XM radio. The dash still looks pretty stark because of the non-reflecting design. The advantage of the present design is that it is meant for business. It helps to focus your attention outside on traffic, not the trim.
The transmission has been revised which improved the low speed drive ability of the car and eliminated a nasty lag between 1st and 2nd when cold. 1st gear needs to be redone. Weak.
The optional air inflater is OK but put the battery in there not on the side. That was dumb. But cost effective. I guess Cadillac designers do not have time for Golf. Some of the packages are restructured, but still no power on the base car passenger seat. I know it keeps the price down, but this is a Cadillac and I would rather see some money spent on style than the cost of a motor on the seats. I think they forgot the wife here. Glove box is still not a bin and things fall out. Not thinking on Cadillac's design part. This is not a race car. but very very good.

The car is a little eye-opening in snow without "Stabilitrak" Snow tires are a definite serious consideration. A factory Winter Package should be added, so we do make our own for you here. They say they tested them in Alaska, but it must have been summer.

Other than that, the car is even better than before. A lot of fun to drive. I should not criticize Cadillac for what the tire companies do. I have driven one for 3 years now and have not gotten one stuck yet, however I do hear from customers that they are not so fortunate.

Speaking of fun to drive, the CTS-V is the car that will really make a believer of you. Run Flat tires. Very smooth ride with the suspension used. Great seats.
For replacement though I would not use them. They have very short life. A more conventional tire rides better and lasts twice as long.
Shall we say the LS6 engine is eager? For 2006 the engine is punched out a bit to 6L still OHV, which is OK, I would turbo it with a couple small ones, but only for the fun not for the go, Lord knows it has more than enough of that. With fuel costs getting what they are I am sure lots of changes are in the future. In the US we do not have much top end speed needs, but getting away from all those stoplights is another thing.
Still has 400 horsepower. 395 lb-ft of torque.
The transmission is very nice.
Brembo Brakes are wonderful and look great.
0-60 in 4.6 seconds. Not that I drive like that but boy, when entering the freeway it really gets up to speed like nothing else I have had the pleasure to drive.
I would like to see a bit wider wheel on the rear, and not cut into the trunk a bit. I would rather see "flares" for the V's added on the front and rear. Kind of like those racing Porsche's of the 70's.

DETROIT: General Motors recently announced it has signed a four-year agreement to become an official supplier of vehicles to the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, Arizona, and that the new Cadillac CTS sports sedan and Chevrolet Corvette have been chosen as official vehicles for use at the school.

This all new car from Cadillac  has hit the ground running.  Extremely popular with all age groups, this all new car built to take on the world, is doing just that. The CTS presents an aggressive new look with crisp horizontal lines balanced by well placed dramatic curves.

this car is engineered for outstanding quality, durability, and safety.  The CTS gives you the confident feeling of being attached to the road, with outstanding ride quality not found in similar cars. You can choose from a 5 speed manual or automatic transmission.  This is a car that is fun to drive.  (call me and lets get together to try one!)

Balance is the key word here.  Optimum front/rear weight distribution for precise handling. This car has all the sizzle of an F-16, with its driver oriented cockpit, and seats that will not tire you out after a long mission at work.  You will find yourself wanting to take the long way home.

During that drive you will want the best music to ad a little atmosphere, and that is what you get with either the standard 200 watt stereo, to the outstanding BOSE music system.
