XLR provides a new level in seating comfort and control. The seating areas can be heated or cooled, to adjust to your personal preference. So now, you can stay cool even with the top down under the summer noonday sun.
             Positioned just below driver's eye level, the available adjustible Heads-Up Display helps you keep your "hands on the wheel and eyes on the road." Stay up to the second on speed, gear, shift, adaptive cruise control data and even CD selection.
What's special about it?
Built on an advanced new performance car chassis made specifically for convertibles, the XLR promises exceptional structural integrity and outstanding handling. Dave Hill, chief engineer, calls the XLR "a luxury roadster with performance car roots. Underneath its striking exterior style, [the] XLR has a patented performance car body structure that is ideal for a roadster and serves as a strong foundation for a car designed for great agility and bona fide luxury."

The rear-wheel drive convertible will be powered by a high-output 4.6-liter Northstar V8.The all-new XLR will feature the first use of a high-output 4.6-liter all-aluminum Northstar engine in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. All previous 4.6-liter Northstar engines were used in front-drive applications only. Power output is to be in the neighborhood of 320 horsepower, and with future supercharging, can go as high as 450 if GM will let it, Corvette look out!


Cadillac says it has already received inquiries from 30,000 potential customers wanting more information on XLR. The first 100 cars sold in 10 minutes. Pricing is still very much in question, but should be well north of $76,200.00 when it goes on sale in the fall, we are taking orders with deposits now.

Cruise control with vision. A radar sensor detects the presence and speed of the car in front of you and will assist you in maintaining desired headway. Headway is maintained using the throttle; if more deceleration is required, brakes are applied. If driver action is required, the system will sound an alarm. When traffic clears the cruise control gradually increases vehicle speed to the set speed.
As you approach the locked vehicle, sensors instantly recognize your special key FOB even without taking it from your pocket, purse, or briefcase. If everything matches, and all verification conditions are met, the door or trunk will unlock and then unlatch at your command.

After you enter the car, simply push the "start" button on the dash.

In less than a second, the vehicle issues a challenge to your Bulgari-designed key FOB, and if all verification conditions are met, the engine starts. Press the "OFF/ACC" button, and the vehicle turns OFF, but retained accessory power is maintained until a door is opened.

With the touch of a button, you can transform the XLR from a stylish coupe to an exhilarating open-air roadster. Designed for seamless operation, the hardtop retracts and stores easily into the back trunk area. Push the button again, and the top slips back into place for an elegant, precise fit.

The 250-watt, nine-speaker Bose Acoustimass music system delivers equalized, crystal-clear sound. The in-dash, single-load six-disc CD changer keeps the music going without missing a beat. This is the best auto sound system I have heard! It rivals my Bose noise cancellation headphones, you should check this out.

Enjoy your favorite movies and CDs in the luxury and comfort of your XLR, or find your way to almost any location in North America. The in-dash entertainment system has a DVD player with a seven-inch LCD color screen. It plays DVDs, CDs, and is video game compatible, and even takes a remote feed from camcorders.
The five-speed automatic transmission shifts effortlessly on city streets and during tight maneuvers. For more driving control, select the manual mode and use the Driver Shift Control. Simply tap up or tap down to engage a higher or lower gear. Designed from the ground up as an open-air vehicle, the XLR boasts a design inspired by the stealth fighter and an enviable combination of strength, agility and lightweight construction.
