OUR STORY............

The Sage Basin Pheasants Forever Chapter (SBPF) was established in October of 1997 when a group of concerned upland bird hunters got together and listened to a message given by the western regional PF biologist. The message: in order to increase upland bird populations, you need to improve their habitat. A handful of us heard the message and set out to raise funds and spread awareness of the pheasant situation and how it could be fixed.

It’s very simple you see, just like in the movie Field of Dreams, "If you build it and they will come!" Improve habitat and the pheasants will come! The message is simple but spreading the message is hard, but we’ve hung in there and now we are the largest Pheasants Forever Chapter in the State of Oregon.

Our first fundraising banquet in February of 1998 was scary but exciting and grossed over $20,000.00. Our second fundraising banquet in February of 1999 was bigger and grossed over 30,000.00. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th banquets scored some big hits for habitat dollars as well. Sage Basin has recently partneres with The Department of Agricultures NRCS and has aquired $98,000 in habitat dollars. While most wildlife organizations have to send their banquet proceeds off to their national headquarters, PF is different, all money raised by an individual chapter stays with the chapter and is spent as the chapter sees fit. Only the membership dues are given to the National PF office so they can pay their light bill. Thanks to our fundraising efforts we have money in the bank to start our habitat enhancement projects. We never have a shortage of projects to do, just take a look at projects already completed or still under construction.

PROJECTS:

Our youth, the hunters and conservationists of tomorrow, are very important to our chapter. Every year we put on a Ringneck event dedicated to the kids. You see, Pheasants Forever can’t always be about raising money, sometimes we need to have fun and cultivate the kids so they can pass on our important message.
