[1] This printing of the Authorised Version is
undated, but probably came off the presses around 1960. The AV or King James
translation dates back to 1611, when it was first published in full.
Its translation was commissioned by King James
I of England (James VI of Scotland), and 47 scholars worked individually and in
groups, using previous Englsh translations and texts in the original languages.
The Encyclopædia Britannica notes: “The
translation had marked influence on English style and was long accepted as the
standard English Bible.”
