First off, I have an amazing boyfriend named Mike. I love him very very much. We have been together since February 25th, 2002 - which is 3 years and 6 months so far. He lives across the street from my parent's home, where I currently live. He just started working overnight at Target (11pm-5am). I am 21 years old. My favorite alcoholic beverage is a brown betsy, but I still have a lot more to try... ;-) I grew up in North County St. Louis, MO. I graduated from Hazelwood West in the class of 2002. I graduated from the University of Missouri - Columbia (Mizzou) in May '05 with my B.S. in Biology. I also graduated with my associates degree last summer ('04) from St. Louis Community College. Right now I am going to graduate school at Saint Louis University (SLU). I am working towards my M.S. (R) in Biology. So far I really like it. The commute sucks (35-45 minutes), but the school is really great. I am doing a research assistanship with Dr. (and Father) Joeseph Fortier. He's a professor of Entomology up at SLU. The assistanship involves me collecting and categorizing a specific species of parasitic wasp. Not my ideal project, but it's paying all of my tuition, my medical insurance, and $15,000/yr. The research work and thus the stipend doesn't kick in until Jan. though. This semester I am just preparing myself by taking Prof. Fortier's Entomology class (which I despise) and a statistics class, as well as reading these books on wasps that he's prepared for me. I actually hope to take more cellular bio and biochem classes next semester and get a degree oriented towards biomedical research or possibly preparing me for med. school. Once I start research in Jan, and the school starts paying me, I have to quit my jobs (school policy). Right now I have two jobs. One as a phlebotomist (drawing blood) at Saint Louis University Hospital. The other at Target working on the salesfloor, mostly putting up the clothes. I like both jobs to some extent, though I also hate certain aspects of each one. Being around sick people can be really depressing and it makes me constantly fear I will contract something, and picking up clothes all day is very tiring and hard on my back. I have two brothers. My oldest brother is a year younger than me. He graduated in 2003 and is going on his third year at Mizzou. He's wroking towards a degree in financing or accounting, I believe. My youngest brother is 12. He's in 7th grade, and just started Junior High. He's in the gifted program they have there (called SAIL) and so far he seems to really like it. My parents are still together after 26 years. My mom is working as a substitute teacher this year, but she hopes to have a job as a permanent teacher or reading advisor next year. My dad is the CFO of Saint Louis University Hospital. He just got promoted last Spring. They love him there, and are really nice to me...(they could def. introduce me to some doctors, which I plan to do soon to figure out if that's what I want to do). We have a cat named Kitty, and a dog named Sophie. As for my political views, I consider myself a moderate. I am prochoice, pro-gay marriage, but not anti-war, anti-stem cell research, or pro-affirmative action. Thus, I do not consider myself a democrat nor a republican, though I do share some views of each. I do believe in God, but I also believe my beliefs are just that.... mine. I believe people have the freedom to do whatever they want (or should have); but when what someone else does affects another person, it should be regulated and those freedoms should be lost. I believe in personal freedom above equality though (since communism and socialism are just no good to the economy).
Go Cardinals and Rams!
