Finding the Sweet Spot when Recording Electric Guitar | ||||||||
One method for getting a great guitar tone: Start by locating the sweet spot for mic placement on the guitar cabinet. Plug a good set of headphones that isolate your ears from outside noise to the headphone out of the monitor section of your recording hardware. Max out the volume on the guitar amp and turn the volume of the headphones up until you clearly hear the noise of the amp in your headphones. Move the mic around in front of the speaker(s) until you find the spot where the amp noise has the best blend of high and low frequencies. While you may have to tweak the location once things get rolling, this spot should be a good place to situate the mic, providing a nice, balanced tone.
BE VERY CAREFUL: Do not let anyone TOUCH the guitar while you're doing this. Since the amp is cranked, and the headphones are louder than normal, you could SERIOUSLY damage you're hearing. |
