ABOUT SAMIRA SHEPHERDS

I grew up on a farm with ponies, horses, dogs and puppies, chickens, cats and kittens. And all the other creatures we caught and brought home from the pond. When I married my husband, he had not had the same upbringing. But I was soon to reform him.

About 15 yrs ago we bought our first shepherd. He was a beautiful black/tan, almost a bi-color. And my husbands first dog. He was to discover the joy of man's best friend. They had a very tight bond. We then decided to get another and I bought a black/tan/silver female. Their names were Dino and Kima. They soon had a litter of pups. We sold all but one male. Then our circumstances changed suddenly and we were no longer going to be able to keep the dogs. I sadly gave up Kima to a wonderful family that kept her as a pet and she lived a happy healthy life to be 11 yrs. Dino and his son went to my parents house and I soon found a home for his son with a great couple who had recently lost their dog. They lived on 50 acres and were in awe of this dog. Needless to say another great home. We managed to hang on to Dino for a couple of years, but eventually found him a home where he lived to be about 12.

That began our love for this breed. We vowed as soon as we were settled more permanently we would find another shepherd. It took a little longer than expected but certainly was worth the wait. And when we found our male we thought we had a reincarnated Dino. Hence the same name. He is such a laid back, honey of a dog. His presence is intimidating, but all he wants is chest rubs and belly scratches. He is trained in obedience (been to 3 classes) but I have yet to find a club to join so I can title him. I have done most of my training on my own. Bought all the books and videos.

So my search for a female began. Then I found "Surefire Shepherds" and fell in love with her dogs. I liked the fact that she was breeding for a more old style german shepherd with less angulation. And she was mixing American and German lines and also the White german shepherd. First I had to wait for the puppies to be born, then the process of finding the "right" one. Rhonda was great and helped me pick the right one. Teca is the love of my life, and has a wonderful personality. I hope to set up some agility equipment to work her on in the future. I know she will do great, she's a wizz at frisbee.

I wasn't planning on getting another female so soon, but I was in the wrong place at the right time? kind of deal. Once I saw her picture I just couldn't say no. So along came Shada. A Blue/Red Sable. She has a beautiful head and a tempermant to die for. I know, I know blue isn't an exceptable color. But to who? I love the color and so do alot of people I know. Alot of people comment on her and they love the color. I know it isn't in the standard but they are born all the time, and they deserve loving homes also. She is here to stay, and I have no regrets.

I hope to produce healthy, calm tempered, beautiful dogs that will fit in wonderfully as companion and family dogs first. I feel that an Obedience title speaks much louder than a Show title and will stive for this intelligence in my breeding program.
