Master James Benckert
I began practicing Choy Li Fut san soo in the late 60's and remained practicing with Jimmy until his death in Feb of 1991. I received my Masters Degree in 1982 and my Advance Master Degree in 1988.
In 1980 Jimmy Woo ask me to begin drawing the class forms for him which I did until his death in Feb 1991.
It was during this time that he and I worked closely together on the mechanics, structure, and history of the form. Also discussed were advance properties of lightness, concentration, balance, calming of the mind, timing, and slow motion movement, and there effects on the body and mind. Touched on too, were how a form and its movements are to be used as a guide in ones everyday, life, and how the interplay of the two vital yin and yang energies work.
In addition, he listed the special rules and regulations governing long, middle and short arm principles, the plotting and chartering of the form in order to unite it as whole, as well as, advance principles of the use of circles and triangles in relationship to your body motion, and that of your opponents.
It has been my pleasure over the years to organize all this information into a tsai li fo san soo dictionary in logical and orderly arrangement.
