'Adja' was born on the 18th of December 1982 and we formed a bond that was to last
eleven and a half years - not nearly long enough!

Adja was my third Rottweiler.  I acquired the other two all the wrong ways but they ended up with my parents as much loved family pets giving me the opportunity to look for another puppy.  I met Pat and George Hall of Stromhall Rottweilers.  Pat and I had many long talks and we hit it off straight away, so I was put on the waiting list for a puppy and finally Adja came home.

A born sticky beak from the beginning he could not be left out of anything.  A few times we left him inside while we were out and he managed to dig up the carpert in one room, sever the power cord from the fridge and break a window, all before the age of six months.

Adja also had a great sense of humour.  If you put a party hat on him and sang happy birthday, he would be singing right along with you.  When Blake was born Adja took it upon himself to always be close by and would come and let me know by bumping me if he thought I was too slow in attending to Blake.  Many times when Martin and I would take
him swimming in the river, we would have to keep a look out for anyone swimming within earshot.  If Adja saw or heard them, he would be off in a flash, heading toward them and would not leave them alone until he had "saved" them.  We spent a lot of time explaining that he only wanted to pull them out to safety!

We looked after a friends property once while they toured around Australia.  We all have dogs that we love, well, my friend had ducks, geese and her precious guinea fowl that
would come and sit on the bedroom ledge cooing at you.  One by one they disappeared.  We managed to replace the ducks and geese, but not the guinea fowl.. We rang around the State but to no avail.  We finally had to fess up, a very costly rampage.
Adja's show career had ended by the age of four, after he tried to climb over my parents back fence to fight with a Shepherd on the other side.  He had irrepairably damaged the tendons and ligaments around his hock.  He was a true all rounder, doing well in both the All Breed and Specialty rings.

We are very proud of his achievements.  He was a dog that was always there.  Special thanks must go to Pat Hall for handling Adja to many of his wins and who has always been there for both of us along the way.
Some highlights of Adja's Show career include:
As a sire Adja was very successful.  Many of his progeny went on to win both Specialty and All Breed events.  One of my biggest thrills was showing a daughter of his to Challenge Bitch and Runner Up Best in Show from the Puppy Class under Murial Freeman (USA).  An Adja son went Best In Show.

I feel very lucky to have shared so many good times with this terrific dog.  He has been the foundation and inspiration of Sanmar Kennels.
