The glorious journey of SARJANA, in this 55 years old institute, is ridden with halts and hiccups. SARJANA was conceived to communicate the nuances of technology to the common folks. Only educated minds can engineer technological revolutions. With a lucid and simple medium of interaction, SARJANA has tried to illuminate this path.

SARJANA’s journey was halted in 1973 after the publication of 18th edition under director Dr. Chandranan Thakur and chief editor Sri Jaiprakash Narayan. Meanwhile Samantar, a monthly magazine of the institute, earlier stopped due to monetary problems was restarted. But  Samantar and Sarjana did not share the same vision. Initially Samantar focussed entirely on technical matters. With passage of time, it expanded its horizon but a few years later, its publication was stopped. Another magazine Madhyam was introduced but it saw the light of the day only once.

SARJANA groped in darkness for years but the dawn brought a brand new beginning. In between, students came forward with confidence to take up the responsibility of Editor-In-Chief. It has been making rapid progress and has not looked back since. SARJANA reflects the history of BIT. It is a breather to students surrounded by lifeless machines all the time. The changes brought in SARJANA with time have polished this gem and increased its luminance.

SARJANA understands the pulse of BIT. Adaptability and flexibility are its punch lines. SARJANA tries its best to provide a channel for the flow of our ideas and a platform to our views. SARJANA family, the editorial board of SARJANA, can be christened as a struggle won with dedication, devotion and willpower.

Even when not in publication, it took pains to organize ALL INDIA D.L.DESHPANDEY ESSAY COMPETITION. Contacts were established with renowned writers like Shri Hemant Mishra, but all these efforts could not put life into SARJANA again.

SARJANA breathed again due to industrious endeavours of 95 batch students, Editor-In-Chief of 98-99 session Shri Vasant Kumar and Prof. R. Jha. Editor-In-Chief of 99-00 session Sri Kumar Saurabh started various competitions. Subsequently various Editor-In-Chiefs like Sri Kaushal Kumar Pandey, Sri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Sri Santosh Kumar and Sri Rajan Prakash made untiring efforts to oil the machines of SARJANA.

Our director Prof. Sheojee Singh, convener Dr.A.K.S. Chaudhary and the entire student body are the guiding forces behind the success of  SARJANA.

SARJANA has received unprecedented love and heartfelt support from every corner of the institute. It has tried its level best to match their standard of expectations. Regular columns like OPINION POLL, BIT AS I HAVE SEEN IT, SHORT STORY WRITING, ESSAY WRITING provide them a chance to relate their views and thoughts. Changes are imminent but SARJANA’s aim would always be to provide a concrete base to their feelings.

Today SARJANA stands for unparalleled values and a set of moral codes enough to preserve the glorious past, live in golden present and dream about a splendid future.
