Howell, John Jacob, was born 1804, the son of Carson Howell (1768-1836) and
Nancy Dolly Cook. Two of his sons served with the 13th Regiment, South
Carolina Infantry. James Carson Howell received seven wounds and was in 27
battles. James' brother, John Pearson Howell was wounded at the 2nd Manassas.
He was mustered in CSA service July 1864 at Batesburg and served until the unit
disbanded April 1865 at Spartanburg. He died in 1868.
Note: This unit may have been in Senior Reserves but the only data states 2nd Regiment. Its only known member is far too old to have been in Junior Reserves as a private. If he is, he may add a new dimension to this final callup.
