    Marsascala, the Club

Marsascala has become one of the major water polo clubs in the Maltese Islands. From a team that languished in the second division of the national league, it has progressed to become one of the top five teams on the island culminating with the winning of the national league in 1997. Moreover the club has participated in the European Competitions organized by L.E.N. with encouraging results including victories over the national champions of the Czech Republic and Switzerland. Beginning from the year 2000 the club has embarked on a four year strategy of renovation of the team roping in very promising youngsters who are gaining valuable experience alongside the established players, this with a plan in mind to win the championship again in a few years' time.

    Marsascala the Town

The seaside town of Marsascala is located around a picturesque inlet on the southeast coast of Malta. In the last 20 years it has developed from a small fishing village into a major tourist and commercial location in the south of the island. The resident population has increased ten fold in the last 10 years exceeding 6,000 permanent residents alongside more than the same number of summer occupants. In the commercial sector the town offers four large hotels and more than fifty food establishments. Everyday youths from allover the island flock to the various recreational centers in the town. These include a cinema complex, a number of discotheques and the sports complex of Marsascala Sports Club, which boasts a newly built clubhouse and a 50m salt-water swimming pool with its adjoining restaurant and diving center. Visit The Marsascala Picture Album for more pictures and information about  the village of Marsascala or go to The Town page of the galleries section of this site.

                                      Water polo in Malta

Water polo is the number one sport on the island in the summer months. It is given extensive coverage by all media. The daily newspapers give an extensive report of the previous day’s matches. Games are also covered by a direct commentary on local radio stations and are viewed on television later in the evening. The attendance of matches varies but may be up to 2000 people for the most interesting games. The standard of Maltese water polo is of a good level.

This website is a collection of images, history, teams, events, news items and related articles of the water polo team of Marsascala, Malta. It has been made possible with the kind efforts and generous item contributions of Vice-President, Patrick Carter, and also the committee, teams and supporters.
