Dannevirke Scandinavian Club
The visit by Østjydske Folkedansere
- folkdancers from East Jutland, Denmark -
on Saturday, 4 November 2000.

The dance party of 37 dancers and support people arrived in Dannevirke about mid-afternoon, after being the guests of the Hawkes Bay Scandinavian Club the previous night. At 4:00 pm, the group performed for club members and locals at St. Joseph's School Hall, Allardice Street, after first being welcomed by Maureen Reynolds, Mayor of Tararua District.
The photos below show some scenes from their stunning performance. Also shown are supporting performances by Norsewood School's Folk Dance Group (Scandinavian cultural activities are part of the school's set curriculum), and dancers from Dannevirke dancing teacher, Joan Irvine's dance group. In their case, their ability to very successfully master a new dance in a very short time, was proven by the subsequent discovery that they had only learned this one three days earlier.
After a tour around the Dannevirke district on Sunday morning, the party moved on Palmerston North, to become the guests of the Scandinavian Club of Manawatu.
Many apologies for the little round spots on these photos. These proved to be compliments of temporary condensation within the digital camera. Unfortunately, it was not, by the time of this discovery, possible to take a new set!!
