My name is Janie Herrin but most of you might know me as Crobeanie AKA Bea Wells.  I'm 61 years old and have two grown sons and 7 grandchildren.  I reside in Jacksonville, Florida with Ron, my soul mate of over 30 years.

My mother crocheted for as long as I can remember.  She worked only in thread.  Her work was exquisite.  I have her tablecloth and an unfinished bedspread that she started in 1960, along with a few of her other pieces including a chair set.

I guess my mother thought I wasn't serious when I used to beg her to *please* show me how to crochet because she never did.  Only a chain stitch that I would make over and over.  I didn't learn how to crochet until I was 32.  My SIL's mother taught me how to make a Granny Square, which, BTW, is still my most fave thing to make, that and doillies.

My SIL's mother was paralyzed down the right side of her body due to a stroke and worked with only her left hand.  She was an amazing lady with the patience of a Saint.  She held the hook in her useless hand that lay in her lap as she worked yarn around the hook and maneuvered stitches with her left hand, though she had been a righty.

Anyway, I practically had to stand on my head to figure out what she was doing, but together, I learned the basics, LOL!!  I'm still crocheting as much as I can, though about 2 years ago I was diagnosed with leukemia.

Crochet is what has gotten me through the rough times.  I love all my Internet friends and feel blessed to have known so many and have shared so much.  It's true, I have family here, but it's you I've reached out to (again and again!!).  Hope you like the poncho... Just remember, old crocheter's never die, they just hook away, ROFL!!  Keep hookin'!!
