MAKING AND FITTING AYLMERIS
1. CUT A STRIP OF LEATHER APPROX 9 INCHES LONG BY 1 INCHE WIDE. 2. CUT THE STIP IN TWO. 3. ONE END OF EACH STRIP ROUND OF . I USE THE END OF THE RULER AS A TEMPLATE. 4. THE TOOLS NEEDED ARE PUNCH, EYELETS AND EYELET TOOL. 5. USE THE EYELET TO MARK THE ROUND END AND PUNCH OUT THE HOLE. 6. PUT EYELET THROUGH THE HOLE TO BE USED TO MARK THE OTHER END. 7. PUT AROUND THE BIRDS LEG AND MARK THE OTHER END. 8. PUNCH THE OTHER HOLE , PUT TOGETHER AND CUT OFF THE EXCESS. 9. CUT ALONG EACH SIDE WITH SMALL SLITS FROM END TO END. 10. PUT AROUND THE BIRDS LEG AND FIX WITH EYELET AND EYELET TOOL. 11. THIS IS HOW IT WOULD BE WHEN AROUND THE LEG OF THE BIRD. 12. A CLOSE UP OF THE SMALL SLITS THAT SOFTEN THE EDGES OF THE LEATHER.
THIS PROCEDURE IS A TWO MAN JOB AND IT IS WORTH PRACTISING BEFORE ATTEMPTING ON THE BIRD. REMEMBER IF IN ANY DOUBT ABOUT THE AYLMER START AGAIN IF NOT YOU COULD DAMAGE THE BIRDS LEGS BY BADLY FITTING AYLMERIS. ALWAYS BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. |
