The LAWSON family belongs to the Clan MacLaren. Their motto is: "Boar's Rock". The Boar's Rock is also known as the Manse Rock and is a large rocky hill sacred to the MacLarens. Balquhidder is a Highland glen where MacGregors, MacLarens, Stewarts, and Fergusons engaged in bloody feuds.

First found in in Yorkshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.
