Master Jan De-Vry Jan started martial arts 16 years ago, after joining the Royal Air Force. He started Tang Soo Do after meeting his instructor and now close friend Master Mark Adlington, while they were both serving in Central America. Shortly after he was lucky enough to meet Grand Master Jae Shul Shin who gave him great inspiration, and still does to this day. "He has a great presence and he is so humble it is powerful".

Jan has had many achievements: 3 times bronze medalist at World Championships, European Champion, and British Champion, plus many runner up medals. He has been Royal Air Force Champion, and Inter-Service Championships Winner. Though Jan feels his greatest achievements have been the people he has coached, 3 British Grand Champions, 2 European Grand Champions and several World Champions. "Champions aside it is were people achieve goals especially children, aided through training Scotland Tang Soo Do that is most important to me".

Jan has received two World Tang Soo Do Association Commendations for his work.

Through out the years of training Tang Soo Do Jan has constantly studied and trained many forms of martial art, endeavoring to improve the standard of Tang Soo Do, himself and his coaching. He has trained 2 years at Ju Jitsu, aswell as Tae Kwon Do, Chi Kung and Yoga. In particular he has been very impressed with the Dragon Society International, who have helped take his techniques a quantum leap. Jan attributes the success of Scotland Tang Soo Do to the excellent team of highly qualified instructors and the strong community spirit found in people from the area. There are many attributes to successful martial artists, but one vital fundamental one, Jan believes, is never be full of your own self importance, every one is equally important, they are all part of the cosmic energy and influence that makes us what we are. To receive you must be able to give, this includes respect the instructor and leader must take this initiative.

Ego is the biggest down fall of any Martial Artist.
