The Kepler Track
The start (or end) for this walk is Rainbow Reach. Just a quick car journey from the Barnyard. If we're able to do it we may be able to take you to the start. If not, Atomic Shuttles can take you from the bottom of the Barnyard's road to the start.

The Milford Track
Often called the most beautiful walk in the world. You can catch a lift from the Real Journeys Office in Te Anau to the boat that leaves from Te Anau Downs to the start of the track.
Alternatively, you can go on a day trip with a company called Trips n' Tramps.

The Routeburn Track
This track can start either at The Divide or you can approach it from the other direction just outside Queenstown in Glenorchy.

The Divide offers you the chance to divert for a few minutes to ascend to Key Summit. Well worth the extra blister!
Walks around Te Anau
If you don't want to walk for days there are a few walks around Te Anau too.
The first part of the Kepler Track (above) from Rainbow Reach to Shallow Bay is around a three hour return. You can also walk from the control gates to Brod Bay in about two hours. There is a lovely walk around Lake Te Anau which passes through the Bird Sanctuary too. See opposite for the map.

Please note: You should always seek the advice of the local Department of Conservation (DOC) office before you start any walk for which you need to pack overnight provisions. You may need to buy tickets for either a camp or hut space plus there may be dangers of which you are unaware. New Zealand is a wonderful place but unprepared trampers (and even some prepared) have lost their lives due to natural hazards or poor planning.
