FRIENDS AND ENEMIES

Believe it or not some animals don't find Guinea Pigs cute and cuddly. In fact even many people will refuse to touch my Guinea Pigs saying they are just rats without tails. ARG! I then explain to them that scientifically Guinea Pigs are more closely related to humans DNA than to rats or mice! (Unfortunatly I can't remember where I read that.) Besides I'm more likely to bite. Anyway...

As you probably have seen in many pet shops rabbits can make relatively good house mates for Guinea Pigs. It should be noted that a good amount of space should be given as rabbits have very powerful hind legs and could easily hurt piggy by accident if startled while both are in a small cage.

OK...to be on the safe side most other animals are a risk to your Guinea Pig. We have a black lab who could care less about our piggies except for the occasional theft of a carrot out of their house. And I know that there are many of you reading this that probably have some other pet besides your Guinea Pigs and they might get along very well.

HOWEVER...if you take your piggies outside or have friends come over with their pets BEWARE! We had the terrible misfortune of losing one of our treasured piggies, OTTO, to a friends visiting dog. Our Guinea Pigs run free so we also have to warn our human guests to be extra careful of where they walk because our Guinea Pigs are brave and will walk right up to them and can get under foot.

I guess what I am saying is be on the safe side and expect all other animals to view your friend as a tasty treat rather than the pet you love.

And for all you people who feed Guinea Pigs to snakes... BURN!
