Goshogaoka * of ****, but it is hard to rate an experimental film. Rated: not rated, but call it a G Length: 63 minutes Format: 16mm Director: Sharon Lockhart Cast: the Girl's basketball team at Goshogaoka High School, Japan Synopsis: This is an experimental film showing the Girl's basketball team perform a series of exercises with uniform motion. They progress from stretching, to movement to ball handling, and to cool down. The camera does not move at all. Review: The effort is interesting for making the found, and some created, choreography a thing to watch. There is no play of basketball, but the workout is practice for the game. The slow but constant pace of the exercises is somewhat hypnotic with the small variations serving to keep it interesting and to highlight the consistencies. There were a few laughs and one applause during the ball handling routines. It may not be as boring as a French film, but once the cool down begins, it's then time to go. One woman there said she had seen it a few months earlier. |
