Synopsis: A mother and daughter pair of con artists elevate the womanly skill of tricky men out of their hard earned money to a professional level. The movie opens with Max getting married, but before they can leave for their nice honeymoon in Portugal, a problem arises. More scams go on as usual until unexpected complications develop. Review: Although the overall plot is very predictable, the twists and turns along the way make it interesting. The story is well developed and fairly complex for a comedy. That makes it a long movie, but the results are worth it. Naturally no tale of con artists would be complete unless it brings up the ultimate con artist, the IRS. The audience enjoyed the movie, laughed a lot, and many of the women said it was cute. The outfits that Jennifer Love Hewitt wears much of the time are uniquely effective at displaying some of those very dangerous curves of hers in a comedic manor. Hewitt's performance is fairly decent, but is over shadowed by her costars. Weaver is delightfully twisted as the manipulative scamming mother. Hackman is hilarious as the chain smoking billionaire tobacco tycoon, and has some great lines to hit you with. His portrayal is one of the strongest fictional anti smoking statements that I've seen. The supporting actors do a good job even though there is no time to give them depth. The "Look at all the fish" joke is very funny in the movie. I hope that is kept in the final release. This may give you a few groans, but it is worth seeing. |
