Mary Bloom: 1918-2000

MARY ANNIE PERICH BLOOM

Mary Annie Perich Bloom died peacefully at her home on January 27, 2000.

She was born at Lake McMurray, WA to Mike & Annie Perich on March 14, 1918.

Mary grew up in the Lake McMurray area attending school there and graduating from SedroWoolley High School.

She met her future husband, Melvin A. Bloom in 1938 and joined him in Juneau, Alaska where they were married in the Cathedral on August 9, 1941. They moved back to WA where she and Mel bought a farm in the Arlington area that they farmed for 11 years. They sold the farm and bought a resort on Camano Island in 1956 which they operated for six years. They later developed this area into the Manaco Beach Community Club.

After many years of being a nurse's aide, Mary enrolled at Skagit Valley Community College to become an L.P.N., she graduated in 1971 and worked in the Stanwood/Camano area until 1993.

Mary was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church for 44 years, where she belonged to the St. Monica's Guild. Mary, along with her son, Father Phillip Bloom started the Mary Bloom Center in Puno, Peru.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Melvin, and her parents.

Mary is survived by her dear sister, Katherine Satushek of Bellingham; and her children, Mike & Linda of Mukilteo, Greg & Marianne of Camano Island, Father Phillip of Seattle, Lawrence & Teresa of Seattle, Louis of Camano Island and Melanie & Alex of Camano Island; grandchildren, Tonya & Bob, Konan, Patrick, Sara, Corey, Leon, Gavin, Catherine, Karen & Robert, Kevin & Merrilyn, Jim, Seth, Danny and Ben; and terrific great-grandchildren, Rachael, Gabriel & Trevor; nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews; and many, many friends.

Mary was a wonderful mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother who gave unconditional love to her family & friends. She will be missed.

Memorials may be made to the Mary Bloom Center in Peru, c/o Missions Office, 910 Marion St., Seattle, WA 98104 or your favorite charity.

Vigil Service at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 31 at Gilbertson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, February 1, at 10:00 am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Stanwood.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home in Stanwood.
