    Constrain Round Parts

How do I fully constrain a round part with no flat edges ?

    - Glance Reau < g.reau@core77.com >

The solution, currently, relies on the use of reference planes.

Every part has the default three, which may run through the part dividing it symmetrically, provided you have followed this tip (see tip - making base part symmetric)

In the assembly context, the planes must be displayed to use them.

To do this, select Construction Display     from the ribbon bar.

As shown in figure, select Show Reference planes.

Now you can mate, align, etc the reference planes as desired.

For example, if you have a O-Ring, the model itself has no flat surfaces.

However, if the O-Ring was modeleled symmetric about the referene planes, then the planes could easily be used to constrain the part.

    Elliptical Dimensions

How do I dimension an ellipse ?

    - Aditya Kulkarni < adityak@babcox.com >

An ellipse can be dimensioned by using 2 lines to represent the major and minor axes.

To do this, draw 2 lines in the shape of an L

Apply Connect geometric relationship between endpoint of the lines and the silhoutte point     of the ellipse.

The ellipse is now associated to the L which can be dimensioned very easily as shown.

You may choose to have the L lines changed to construction geometry     so that you can select the ellipse as a single profile.

This is not required but can certainly be done.

    Move View

How can I move a View to another Sheet ?

    - Richard C. Ellis < richardellis@woodweb.com >

A view complete with all it's annotations can be moved or copied to another sheet very easily.

To do this, simply select the view and all its annotations, etc. using the Shift key.

Click Copy     or Cut     on the Main toolbar.

Next, switch (or create) to your new sheet.

This is either the same Draft file or a seperate Draft file. Click Paste     on the Main toolbar.

Note: For section views or detail views, the view on which the cutting plane was drawn will also be copied to the new sheet.
