White Work

White Work is a generic term used to describe any white embroidery, but also encompasses drawn work, fill-ins and needleweaving. The art of white on white embroidery originated with the French and was used to decorate alter cloths and other fancy church linens.  By the mid-19th century, beautiful pieces were also being used in the home and became an integral part of a girl's Trousseau.
