** I Remember **

I sit here in my twilight years
Remembering the past
The chirping birds
The swampland lore,
Forever it would last.

The wildflowers of golden hues
Of purples, reds, and blues
As children we would run through them,
Never wearing shoes.

It was fun, seeing wild things
The raccoons and the rabbits
The rising of the new fawns head,
Within their natural habits.

The ponds where wild creatures swam
Delighted us for hours
The bullfrogs croaked,
The birds would sing,
The bees buzzed over flowers.

And there were very tiny bugs
They had their place, you see
They fit into the system,
We call Ecology.

All too soon the singing birds
Their voices faded, gone…
And soon she too
Left forest trails,
The sprightly little fawn.

The changes came so slowly
It faded day by day
I sit here now
A silent world,
Natures stripped away.

There are no birds
To sing me songs
No flowers do I see
It's all used up
For futures child,
Our friend……. Ecology.
