MY PHILOSOPHY of NOURISHMENT
FEED THY BODY...HEAL THY SOUL
Time to be totally honest here...I would love to say I am growing older gracefully...but the truth be known I am croning with more than a healthy dose of moaning! I wake up in the morning...and when I look in the mirror...I think "I do not know who that"Old Lady" is staring back...but it sure the hell is not ME! I have been told that I look much younger than my age...and I believe that was true...but years of emotional abuse, stress, a pending divorce, ect. has started to take its toll. I spent so much time focusing on the needs of others...that I forgot about my own needs. My life right now feels so out of control...but I realized the one thing I do have complete control over ..is how I nourish myself, spiritually, nutritionally, and emotionally. My mid life crisis inspired me to research anti ageing diets. I bought Dr. Perricones book "The Wrinkle Cure" and while it is very informative...I did not totally agree with all the nutritional guide lines. So thus started my search for all the information I could find about anti ageing and healthy diet. I learned that free radicals in our body cause age related changes and damage to our skin and internal organs. The number one defense against them are antioxidants. |

FROM THE INSIDE...OUT | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
I did not need to lose weight...but I have lost 6 pounds already and my cholesteral has dropped by 8 points just by eating healthy and cutting back on processed foods. I did not tell anyone what I have been doing...but have been asked twice at work "Have you done something different to yourself?" I just smile! What I have done is started a practice of whole foods and supplements. I eat only fish and boneless, skinless, chicken breast. Both cooked only in olive oil. And tons of fresh fruit and vegetables. Especially the antioxident ones...cantelope, water melon, grapefruit, and red grapes. I also eat fresh broccoli at least 3 times a week, cabbage, green and red peppers, spinach, and tomatoes at every meal. The list of veggies is almost endless...the more color the fruit or vegetable has...the more antioxident value. Stay away from corn though...because the body converts it to sugar. For breakfast...usually a good whole grain, high fiber, low sugar, cereal with soy milk and a cup of yogurt with fruit. Stay away from any fat that will solidify...use only olive oil, walnut oil, macadamia oil, ect. Yes...they do contain alot of fat...but it is the type of fat that your body needs. Try not to eat anything that has hydrogenated soybean oil or fats. You must read your labels because these are in almost everything processed. For snacks I usuallly have either a handful of almonds, a Luna bar, apples, or an orange. And I try not to eat anything for at least 2-3 hours before bedtime. I cannot praise green tea enough...antioxident packed and helps to burn fat. And you can use the tea bags after you brew your cup for your eyes!!!! Very good for puffiness. |

SUPPLEMENTS and FACE CREAMS
Every morning I take a good multi-vitamin, a DHEA tablet, and a combined formula called Beauty Fast made by Natural Max...available in health food stores. Oil of Olay also has a good one available in your supermarket. Make sure they contain, Ester-C, DMAE, Alpha Lipoic Acid, and Vitamin E. Mid afternoon I take a CoEnzymeQ10...very good for heart and antioxident. I drink alot of spring water and to one glass I add a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. For my face...I use DMAE cream under my eyes and on my neck. And a cream called Skin Eternal by Source Naturals. It is available in health food stores or from internet. Make sure your cream contains DMAE, Ester-C, CoQ10, and Alpha Lipoic Acid. I wash my face and body with Seaweed soap. I do not claim to be an expert...but want to share what is working for me. I have noticed a change in the way I look and feel. As always, check with your doctor before making any dietary changes. |

FEEDING THE SPIRIT | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This time in my life is very challenging...I have suffered depression, heartbreak, loss, low self esteem, fatigue...both mentally and physically...and a general feeling of hopelessness...I did not expect to find myself alone at this age. My children are grown and gone except for my son who lives with me part time. I have had more than my share of wallowing in self pity...and decided to do something positive for ME! I have made these changes not based on anyone but myself... not for a man...but just to please and pamper me . I enjoy coming home and preparing my meal...which is almost a ritual. I take hot, scented baths, with candles, just for me. I am starting a Yoga class, and I try to meditate daily. I feel much better about myself...and while at this time I have no desire for an intimate relationship...when and if the time comes... I will be healthier and stronger...in body, mind, and spirit. |
