UNKNOWN SIBLING OF ELDER JOHN
A.
William Strong - mentioned in grandfather's will. Possibly the William Strong of Axminster who died there in 1683. John and Isaac Dean were overseers of his will dated 1683.Children:
1. Pos. Ann Strong - Bpt. 10 Jan. 1650, bur. 31 Mar. 1650, Chard, Somerset, England.
2. William Strong -
3. Elizabeth Strong - Married ______Clark
Children
a. Elizabeth Clark - mentioned in grandfather's will 1683.
NOTE - ELEANOR COGAN - has been removed as a grandchild of George Strong for the following reasons.
1. In the will of George Strong he mentions his son Thomas, 6 shillings 8 pence. Thomas' family had been taken care of when Thomas was made the next tenant of two cottages in Chardstock. He takes care of Walter and his children who had been born by 1627, Marie, Joan and Elizabeth.
2. George gives grandchild John Strong, six shillings 8 pence without naming a father. John was mentioned in his father's will of 1612. John sr. also named his father George and his brothers Walter and Thomas.
3. George gives to his grandchild William Strong 20 pounds and household items. He again does not name a father. Who is William Strong's father?
4. There is no evidence of another son of George, but there is evidence of another grandchild. In the will of John Strong of 1612 he mentions an unborn child.
NOTE - William Strong of Yeovil was placed as a possible child of George Stronge because of the burial of Margaret Stronge in Chardstock in 1621/22 and he had a wife named Margaret. The recent discovery of William Strong who was buried in 1580/81, Chard, and Margaret's will of 1622, naming their children, who were married and adults by 1613. There is no evidence of any connection of William of Yeovil and the Strong's of Chardstock.
5. George has taken care of all his family members. He does not name a grandchild Eleanor Strong, which seems unlikely if she was a grandaughter. William Cogan in April, 1630 in a multiple life lease names John Strong and "Eleanor Cogan, daughter of William Cogan". Again in William Cogan's will of 1655, he named "My daughter Eleanor Deane, wife of Walter Deane in New England".
Therefore with the evidence we have, Eleanor appears to be daughter of William Cogan. Eleanor Cogan's mother remains unknown. The relationship between Elder John Strong and Eleanor Cogan is not known at this time.
William Strong appears to be the brother of Elder John Strong. More research is needed on this identifcation.
