Thumbspin |
Most commonly trick performed by people. Spinning around the thumb. Thumbspin can be easily linked to create combos. So far, places like library, Thumbspin normal and reverse is the trick most people perform in Singapore. Tricks like Forward 1.5 to Thumbspin 2.5 are more advancing tricks in the Thumbspin Family. More difficult and therefore balancing and control are the key to the success of Thumbspin. |
Number Name Date Posted (All dates are in Day/Month/Year format) 1. Thumbspin - 22/03/03 Fundamental This trick is 360 Degree around the thumb. For beginners learning this trick, the tip is thumb should not move. Available in 4 different versions, where the pen is hit using different fingers. *This trick is known as ThumbAround now. 2. Forward 1.5 - 22/03/03 A very cool trick. It actually does not spin around the thumb but instead above the thumb in one and a half rotation. 3. Thumbspin Double - 22/03/03 Spinning two rounds on the thumb. 4. Thumbspin 2.5 - 22/03/03 Spinning two and a half rotation on the thumb. Quite a hard trick as you must be able to control it well. 5. Thumbspin Reverse - 22/03/03 Similar to Thumbspin Normal but in a reverse pattern. 6. Thumbspin Harmonic - 22/03/03 The combination of Thumbspin Normal and Reverse, linking both tricks. 7. Thumbspin Reverse 0.5 - 22/03/03 Thumbspin Reverse in a half rotation. A trick that can be done continuously if you learn it well.(I haven't master it well though...) 8. Thumbspin Reverse 1.5 - 22/03/03 Thumbspin in a Reverse one and a half rotation. 9. Thumbspin Back Reverse - 22/03/03 One of my own original tricks. Thumbspin Back Reverse, a trick that looks similar to both Thumbspin Reverse and Index Spin Reverse. 10. Forward 1.5. Palm Catch - 13/10/02 Similar to Forward 1.5, just that the pen is caught using the whole palm. 11. Fingerless Thumbspin Normal - 14/01/03 Similar to Thumbspin Normal, just that the pen goes around the thumb without the control of the thumb. A more challenging trick as you need more force and control over the pen when doing this trick. 12. Thumbspin 5.5 - 22/04/04 The pen spins five and a half rotations on the thumb. A pencil or light pen would be recommended for doing Thumbspin. 13. Thumbspin 6.5 - 22/04/04 The pen spins six and a half rotations on the thumb. Tilted my hand a little so as to allow the pen to spin more rotations before the catch. |
Sonic |
A trick that pen spinners must learn. Sonic can be use to link many combos. A very popular tricks among pen spinners. In Sonic Family, there are many kinds of variations. Unlike the Charge Family which consist of fewer variations. To master Sonic itself is easy. But to get to know every single variations are hard. By really perfecting Sonic, you must do it well and also nicely. Some people can perform Sonic consistently, but they cannot do it nicely. A good Sonic should be spinning beautifully in a circular motion. 1. Sonic Normal - 25/08/02 Fundamental The pen goes around the middle finger from between the middle and ring fingers to fall between the index and middle fingers. 2. Sonic Reverse - 25/08/02 Sonic in a reverse pattern. 3. Sonic Harmonic - 25/08/02 A repeated trick of Sonic Normal + Sonic Reverse. Looks cool if perform at a very fast speed. 4. Sonic Rise - 25/08/02 Similar to Sonic Normal but it start from the ring and little fingers. 5. Sonic Rise Reverse - 25/08/02 Can be known as Sonic Fall. Sonic Rise in a reverse pattern. 6. Sonic Rise Harmonic - 22/03/03 Repeated pattern of Sonic Rise and Sonic Rise Reverse. 7. Faked Inverse Sonic - 25/08/02 A sonic that does an extra spin. Its a combination of Charge + Sonic. 8. Faked Inverse Sonic Reverse - 25/08/02 A reverse pattern of Inverse Sonic. A combination of Charge Reverse + Sonic Reverse. 9. Twisted Sonic - 22/03/03 A nice trick which is not really Sonic. It is actually a combination of Charge + Fingerpass Reverse. 10. Twisted Sonic Reverse - 25/08/02 Reverse pattern of Twisted Sonic. A combination of Charge Reverse + Fingerpass Normal. 11. Twisted Sonic Rise - 25/08/02 Another Sonic trick that start from ring and little fingers. 12. Sonic 2x - 25/08/02 A Sonic that jump between 2 fingers instead of one. Not really a nice trick but worth learning. 13. Sonic 2x Reverse - 25/08/02 A reverse motion of Sonic 2x. 14. Sonic Pause - 22/03/03 One of my inventions. Not really a nice trick. The different between Sonic Rise and Sonic Pause is that the pen will stop after a spin and then continue to spin up again. 15. Real Inverse Sonic - 18/09/02 The Real Inverse Sonic. It spin inside the finger instead of outside. 16. Real Inverse Sonic Reverse - 18/09/02 A reverse motion of Inverse Sonic. It spin insde of the finger in a reverse pattern. 17. Inverse Sonic 2x - 18/09/02 Sonic that spin inside the finger. Inverse Sonic 2x jump between 2 fingers instead of one. 18. Inverse Sonic 2x Reverse - 18/09/02 A reverse pattern of Inverse Sonic 2x. 19. Inverse Sonic Rise - 18/09/02 Sonic spinning inside the finger instead of outside. Similar to Inverse Sonic but it start from the ring and little finger 20. Inverse Sonic Harmonic - 22/03/03 Repeat pattern of Inverse Sonic and Inverse Sonic Reverse. 21. Neo Sonic - 03/11/02 Neo Sonic, similar to Sonic. Most people learnt Neo Sonic and mistook it as Sonic. A very easy trick to master. 22. In Out Sonic - 07/04/03 Another trick of my own invention. A Combo-Like, but actually a trick of its own. What can I say about this trick? Hmm... It seems like a Combination of Inverse Sonic 34(Pinky and Ring Finger) Normal and Sonic 23(Middle and Ring Finger) Normal. The only thing is that the trick does only one spin. 23. Sonic Double 3x - 11/09/04 This video include a mini combo with Sonic Double 3x(first trick) in it. Sonic Double 3x spins 2 rotations and skips 3 fingers. For video on Sonic Double 2x, go to combos section and take a look at HyperSonic2. 24. Sonic Double 4x - 09/02/05 Spinning 2 rotations and skipping 4 fingers. The pen will goes above the thumb before it lands between the thumb and pinky finger/ on the palm. |
360 Degree |
Spinning in 360 Degree. Look simple but maybe hard to master. The 360 Degree Family are tricks such as Index Spin and Middle Spin. They spin one round (360 Degree), around your finger. You have to take note of the force exerted during the start and also the controlling of the pen when spinning around your finger. Consist of few variations and tricks, and they are not as popular as compared to the Thumbspin and Sonic Family. 1. Index Spin - 22/03/03 A trick spinning 360 Degree around the Index finger. Also known as IndexAround. 2. Index Spin Reverse - 22/03/03 A reverse motion of Index Spin. 3. Index Spin Harmonic - 25/08/02 Continuous trick of both Index Spin Normal and Reverse. A challenging trick especially performing it continuously. 4. Index Spin Reverse Half - 25/08/02 Similar to Index Spin Reverse but is in half rotation. 5. Middle Spin - 03/11/02 Starting position at the middle and ring finger. The Middle Spin goes 360 Degree around the middle finger and the catch is same as the starting position. Similar to Index Spin but more difficult to perform as you need to keep your index finger further away from pen to prevent your index finger from blocking pen while doing the trick. Also known as MiddleAround. |
Pen going up and down your fingers. Easy to learn, but hard to master.(Meaning to do it fast and smooth.) Fingerpass and Sonic are kind of similar to each other as both families make full use of the fingers. But both of them requires completely different method and skills to master them. In Fingerpass, the tricks are not easy to master compared to Sonic. Fingerpasses can be real frustrating tricks to learn and to master. Why? This is because, unlike Sonic, in the Sonic Family, tricks are very easy to learn as Sonic can be done very comfortably once you mastered them. Its like, 'Whoah, Sonic looks so cool and easy to perform.' But for Fingerpasses, its not easy to perform. When you overdone Fingerpasses, you were surely have feeling of fingers being 'tangled', which is uncomfortable. Also, when Fingerpass Family compared to Sonic Family, they do not look as cool as Sonic. Fingerpasses only goes up and down your fingers with a very common motion while Sonics goes up and down your fingers in a beautiful circular motion. 1. Fingerpass Normal - 22/03/03 Fundamental Pen going in a clockwise rotation. 2. Fingerpass Reverse - 22/03/03 My first trick learnt. Its a reverse pattern of Fingerpass Normal. 3. Fingerpass Harmonic - 25/08/02 A combo that i thought of. Consist of half of the Fingerpass Normal and half of the Fingerpass Reverse. 4. Fingerpass 2x Normal - 25/08/02 One of my creations. The idea of this trick comes from Sonic 2x. All the Fingerpass 2x tricks must be done by holding the pen at its extreme end. 5. Fingerpass 2x Reverse - 25/08/02 The reverse motion of Fingerpass 2x Normal. 6. Fingerpass 2x Harmonic - 25/08/02 A very easy trick to master. |
Fingerpass |
Charge |
Relatively easy to learn. The pen just spin 360 Degree continuously. Look like a circle if done well. Will feel a small 'wind' beside your hand if you are able to spin it fast. Charge Family are neighbour of the Sonic Family. This is because, Charges and Sonics can be easily linked into combos. To perform a good Charge, only one finger is suppose to move and the other should act as a stand/ support. If your whole hand need to move to do a Charge, then the Charge is unsuccessful. 1. Charge Normal 2-3 - 22/03/03 Fundamental Spinning between your Middle and Ring fingers in a clockwise direction continuously. 2. Charge Normal 1-2 - 25/08/02 Another variations of Charge Normal. Spinning between your Index and Middle fingers in a clockwise direction continuously. 3. Charge Reverse 1-2 - 22/03/03 Reverse pattern of Charge Normal 1-2. |
Wiper |
Wiper got its name from the idea of the car screen wiper (the thing which wipe the car screen when raining). The trick looks similar to a car screen wiper and can be link to other tricks. A very nice and simple trick for beginners to learn. In Wiper Family, the tricks are commonly linked to the Thumbspin Family to create combos. Wiper Family are minority which are not very popular to pen spinners and are not widely used. 1. Wiper Normal - 17/11/02 Basically, the starting position is between the index finger and the thumb. The pen is held in a vertical way. Then use your middle finger to push the pen upwards, and meanwhile change then the index finger to the middle finger and your index finger should give way to the pen. The ending position would be the pen held between the index finger and the thumb in a horizontal way. Wiper does a 270 Degree Clockwise spin. 2. Wiper Reverse - 17/11/02 I invented this trick first and then Wiper Normal. Wiper Reverse is much more easier to understand I would say. The starting position is between the index finger and the thumb. The pen is held in a horiztonal way. Use your middle finger and push the tip of the pen downwards. Wiper Reverse does a 270 Degree Counter-Clockwise spin. 3. Wiper Harmonic - 17/11/02 A continuous combo of Wiper Normal and Wiper Reverse. 4. Figure 8 - 07/04/03 Figure 8 strucks me when I was doing Wiper Harmonic. It is a Combo-Like, but is actually a trick of its own. This is a trick that have the look of Wiper Harmonic and Infinity. The trick looks like a horizontal 8 when it is does correctly or you can say it looks like a Loop. One of my own invented tricks I would say. |
Others |
Tricks that doesn't fall under any families were be categorised under 'others'. Tricks like SideSpin and other miscellaneous tricks have very little relatives. Therefore they belong to the Others Family. They maybe unique or worth performing, or completely useless tricks depending on how you want them to be. Sometimes, these miscellaneous tricks can be the easiest to link into your combos! So don't ever look down on any tricks. No tricks in pen spinning is useless. Every single tricks are useful. 1. SideSpin - 22/03/03 This trick spin 360 Degree beside the thumb, which means that it does not spin around the thumb. Similar to SideSpin Half except that a little more force is needed. 2. SideSpin Half - 22/03/03 I thought of this trick when I was thinking of Thumbspin Reverse 0.5 aka Half Taps. I wanted to make a Half Thumbspin but of course... it seems to be impossible. ( Correct me if I'm wrong :] ) So in the end, I came out with a SideSpin Half. The pen spin half a rotation beside my thumb. This trick looks a little weird. I don't know how to explain on doing it. From what I know, I used very small amount of energy to hit my pen with my Middle finger. If needed, I will move my Thumb a little upwards. 3. SideSpin Half Continuous - 25/08/02 Same trick as SideSpin Half but in a continuous motion. SideSpin Half was already difficult to perform, continuous of the trick would need to have very good control on amount of energy exerted. 4. 2 Pens Sonic Rise - 13/10/02 Sonic Rise performed using 2 pens. Not an amazing trick though. Categorised under 'others' since its a 2 Pens trick. 5. OC Fingerpass - 16/02/03 OC meaning Open and Closing Technique. A small example of using OC Technique to open and close your pen. Combining pen spinning moves into opening the cap of the pen. In this case, the OC is the Fingerpass. 6. OC Forward 1.5 - 16/02/03 Using OC Technique of Forward 1.5. |
Combos |
Combos are sort of 'linking' tricks that link from one trick to another. Combos are fun to try once you get bored with normal tricks. Combo does not belong to any of the families. They are made up of many tricks, linked and joined together to become a combinations. A combo can consist of minimum two tricks and up to maximum of unlimited tricks. Of course, if your combo last for about one minute, then it is a freestyle and not a combo anymore. Most Combos are done and created by pen spinners themselves. Some are easy to be done and some requires alot of practices to make the combos smooth and appealing. Combos are very popular among pen spinners as they looks much more cooler compared to single tricks. Who would want to show off normal tricks to classmates and friends? Doing a Combo would be equivalent to showing ten tricks to your classmates and colleges. 1. Back Reverse T3 - 25/08/02 This is a continuously combos that does a Thumbspin Normal(Variation 3, Ring finger) and a Thumbspin Back Reverse. 2. Thumbspin Harmonic With Break - 25/08/02 Looks like Thumbspin Harmonic, except that a 'break' is added. The 'break' added is Sonic Normal. 3. HyperSonic - 25/08/02 HyperSonic Remake - 08/11/04 My own Combo. The combo can be continuously performed. Mostly consisting of Sonics and Fingerpasses. One of my favourite combos. Tricks Revealed >> Sonic Rise -> 1st 1/2 of Fingerpass Reverse -> Sonic Rise -> 1st 1/4 of Fingerpass Reverse -> Sonic Normal -> 1st 1/4 of Fingerpass Reverse -> Sonic Normal 4. Tohlz's 6 Link Combo - 25/08/02 Don't know whether you all like it. Its a 6 Link Combo which consist of four tricks and two of my own tricks. Tricks Revealed >> Sidespin Half -> Forward 1.5 -> ThumbSpin Reverse -> Sonic Normal -> Index Spin Reverse Half -> ThumbSpin Back Reverse. 5. Combo1 - 26/08/02 A linking combo consisiting of ThumbSpin Reverse, Sonic and IndexSpin Reverse Half. 6. HyperSonic 3 Loop - 26/08/02 My new combo, one of the tricks is Twisted Sonic. There are two variations inside the video. The first one is done with Twisted Sonic and the second one is done with Twisted Sonic Rise. Not much different, just that the second one maybe more difficult. 7. Drummer - 14/01/03 The second half of Fingerpass Normal. But the ending position is caught between the thumb and index finger. A real drumer should be done smoothly and fast. 8. Shadow to Backaround - 18/03/03 <Pencil> Do a Shadow Still, then link it to Backaround. 9. Pause Combo - 29/03/03 My first Pen Spinning and Balancing Combo. Weird but fun. Take a look at it. The tricks maybe revealed on the next update. 10. Conurbation Hyper Sonic - 29/03/03 The extension of Hyper Sonic or you may say that it is a combination of Hyper Sonic and Hyper Sonic 3 Loop. 11. Index Spin 1.5 to Forward 1.5 - 24/05/03 Index Spin with one and a half rotation, then follow by a Forward 1.5. Three Rotations in total. 12. Tohlz's 7 Loop Combo - 29/06/03 A 7 Loop Combo. This trick also contain Two Charges done with palm facing down. Tricks Revealed >> Thumbspin Normal -> Thumbspin Reverse -> Thumbspin Normal -> Charge (Palm Facing Down) -> Pass (Palm Facing Down) -> Charge (Palm Facing Down) -> Twisting of hand and do an Index Spin. 13. 720 Degree Normal - 12/10/03 The pen spin two times around the thumb. Many people mistook 720 Degree Normal with the Thumbspin Double. The difference is spinning two times around the thumb(720 Degree Normal), and two rounds above the thumb(Thumbspin Double). The second spin of 720 Degree Normal is done by jerking your hand. *This combo is known as ThumbAround Double now. 14. Sonic Clip - 12/10/03 Sonic Clip consist of Sonic Normal and a Charge 1-3. Do a Sonic Normal, then before catching the pen, do an addition Charge 1-3. You have to clip the pen between fingers 1 and 3 after the Sonic. 15. Sonic Clip Reverse - 12/10/03 The reverse motion of Sonic Clip. Consist of Sonic Reverse and Charge Reverse 1-3. 16. Christmas Celebration - 25/12/03 <Green Crystal Recorder> A combination of Fingerpass and Thumbspin. 17. Drummer Two - 26/02/04 <Recorder> This video shows two variations of Drummer that you can do. The first one is the normal version and the second one consist of two Passes, Backaround and Fingerless Thumbspin Reverse. 18. Chaos - 26/02/04 This combo is an example of how you can link Neo Sonic and Fingerless Thumbspin into a combo. Doing this combo at the right pace can easily amaze the audience. The crucial part in this combo is to link the Neo Sonic to Fingerless Thumbspin. After doing the Neo Sonic, you must immediately jerk your hand so that the Fingerless Thumbspin can be executed without a break or pause in the combo. The pen looks like spinning all over the place and this is why the combo is named Chaos. 19. HyperSonic 2 - 28/05/04 HyperSonic strikes back! A good Sonic Theme Based Combo for anyone who is interested in Sonic and its variations. This video includes two versions. The first one is a normal version of HyperSonic 2, while the second one is a real version (which is much harder) of it. Since it is called HyperSonic, the real version increases the speed of the spin on Sonic 34 and Sonic 23 (During the execution of Sonic Clip), and slows down after the Sonics. The tricks consist of Sonic Double 2x -> 1st half of Fingerpass Reverse -> Rising Fans. The ThumbAround is done to end the combo nicely. Rising Fans is a combo that I made and is included in the HyperSonic 2. It consists of Charge 34 -> Sonic Clip -> Charge 23 -> Sonic Clip -> Charge12. Note that there are 7 full circular motions in Rising Fans. The Sonic Double 2x contains two rotations, with extra 0.5 rotations at Middle Finger and another extra 0.5 rotations at Index Finger. A good HyperSonic 2 (also applies to all HyperSonic Combos) must be done with the speed fast and well controlled. 20. ThumbAround Reverse 6 - 01/12/04 Spinning 6 times around the thumb in clockwise direction. The tricks consisted are ThumbAround Reverse and followed by 5 Fingerless ThumbAround Reverse. 21. 2004 Christmas Celebration Continuous ThumbAround Reverse - 25/12/04 This video shows ThumbAround Reverse being done 10 times repeatly. 22. Tohlz Infinity Combo (2 Infinity Variations) - 12/04/05 Featuring 2 new variations of infinity. The two combos are also the original videos from UPSB Rush Collaboration and Kit-Cat Forum Collaboration Video. 23. Devil and Demon Compilation - 04/05/05 This video is a compilation of Devil's Spin, Devil's Sonic, Demon's Spin, Demon's Sonic and Devil's Shadow. Tricks Revealed >> Devil's Spin: Twisted Sonic -> Shadow 12 - 23 Devil's Sonic: Twisted Sonic -> Shadow 12 - 12 Demon's Spin: Sonic 34 - 23 -> Pass Reverse 23 - 12 -> Shadow 12 - 23 Demon's Sonic: Sonic 34 - 23 -> Pass Reverse 23 - 12 -> Shadow 12 - 12 Devil's Shadow: Shadow 12 - 23 -> Pass Reverse 23 - 12 Demon's Devil's Sonic: Sonic 34 - 23 -> Pass Reverse 23 - 12 -> Shadow 12 - 23 -> Pass Reverse 23 - 12 |
Stall and Balance |
Stall and Balance is a more unique family that does not really belong to the Pen Spinning. This is because, Pen Spinning usually come in contact with the fingers only. But in Pen Stalling and Balancing, There were be contact with the hands, elbows and more. So what is Stall and Balance? Stall means to stop or to delay something and Balance means to get into a steady position , without falling to one side or the other. When you combine Pen Spinning tricks and combos together with Stalling and Balancing, not only it will become more challenging, but it will also create very great impact on the whole combos or freestyle, making it much more appealing compared to doing the Pen Spinning tricks alone. PenstudioZ will be the first and only Pen Spinning website that will be showing you videos on how to Stall and Balance a pen, starting from the most basic, where no other website has done before. 1. Hand Stall - 29/03/03 Stall your pen using your palm and back of the hand. 2. Two Finger Balance - 29/03/03 To balance your pen using two fingers. In this video, you will be seeing the pen being balanced using the index and middle finger, then fall in and caught in between the index and middle finger as the end position. 3. Tohlz's Balancing Moves - 16/08/04 Download - Batch1 Batch2 Batch3 Batch4 MergingBatch A one minute video. Featuring some examples of my balancing moves. The cobra-like move (Middle finger Balance) in the video was an idea abstracted from Devo's Cobra Cut. A simple trick, Nail Roll is also added to blend in with the balancing moves. To watch the video, simply download the four batches and the merging batch. Save them in the same folder. Then open the Merging Batch and it will merge the 4 batches together. A playable format file will then appears. Note: For all the batches, right click and save as All Files Type rather than Video format. Eg: Batch 1 should be in .1 format. |

Freestyle |
Freestyle, as the name suggested, are commonly combining tricks of more than 10 and above or combining different combos together. Freestyle also means doing tricks that suit your own style or character. They can be anything you want it to be. Freestyle tend to be more popular compared to combo as combo fixed and must end quick, while freestyle can be unlimited and can even last up to 5mins and more! 1. Merry-Go-Round - 05/05/03 <Recorder> Happy Going Round your fingers with this freestyle filmed using a recorder! Note that Recorder in this case means, as in a musical instrument. The feeling and pressure used when performing using a recorder and pen would be very different as the recorder is much more heavier and fatter compared to a pen or pencil, thats why I decided to start some Recorder Manipulation. Also, for precaution, if you are thinking of performing tricks using a recorder, do not ever do it on a hard concrete floor or whatever. It is best you lay a carpet on the floor before using a recorder to do it. Another suggestion would be you spin a recorder on your bed. Dropping your recorder would either spoil it or destroy the tune. Which is highly unrecommended. 2. Master Gunman - 05/05/03 <Green Crystal Recorder> Combination of Drumer and Harmonic Gunman, also the starting and ending position of the Master Gunman should be in a 'Gun' Style, thats why the freestyle (also near to combo) is called a Master Gunman. 3. Never Ending Spin - 05/05/03 <Recorder> Another Freestyle performed using recorder. It looks like Continuous Fake Triple, but to make it more exact, it is a combination of 10 Extended Thumbspin plus one extra Thumbspin (Index Variation). This freestyle last for 10 seconds, so enjoy it! 4. 1st Year Anniversary Celebration Final Strike - 25/08/03 1st Year Anniversary for PenstudioZ. Presenting Final Strike, a freestyle which consist of two parts. Last for 6 seconds. 1st part - Sonic Rise (Palm Down) -> 1/4 Fingerpass Reverse -> Sonic Normal -> Cardioid (Thumbspin - Wiper - Thumbspin) 2nd Part - Half Tap -> Twisted Sonic -> Backaround. Combining the two parts into one is possible. The most important point to remember is that this freestyle should be executed smoothly. Speed is not the key. 5. Complicated - 25/12/03 A freestyle which includes Backaround, Forward 1.5 and other tricks. |

Keychain Spinning |
Another form of hand manipulation that I am currently experimenting with. Keychain Spinning may look hard due to the long chain that maybe difficult to control with, but it is actually much more easier than Pen Spinning. You only have to memorise the patterns and steps. The techniques required are very little. Before you start, get ready a keychain that is 15-20 cm long (Not counting the ring of the keychain) and 3 to 5 keys on the keychain. Appropriate numbers of keys on the keychain can create a better effect during Keychain Spinning. <Keychain> 1. Around The Thumb - 12/11/03 <Trick>The keychain spin one round around the thumb. This is a ring and pinky fingers variation for Around The Thumb. 2. S Spin - 12/11/03 <Trick>The S Spin looks similar to a combination of Fingerless Thumbspin -> Backaround. The keychain will look like a 'S' for the ending position. 3. Somersault Buddha - 14/11/03 <Combo>My first combo for Keychain Spinning, called Somersault Buddha. This is a combo that involves S Spin and some other tricks. This video last for six seconds. 4. Flip - 25/12/03 <Trick>A simple but appealing trick. A suitable trick to impress the audience. 5. Flip Combo - 01/01/04 <Combo>Some variations of Flip, an example of how you can combine Flip with other tricks. 6. Air Toss - 08/01/04 <Trick>A simple air trick for Keychain Spinning. Take note that when doing Air Toss, the keys should be on the index finger side while the grip is on the thumb side so that when you toss it in the air in a clockwise direction, it spin upwards instead of spinning to the left. |

Counters New! |
Counter tricks is a concept put forth by Zombo. The goal of a counter trick is to fool the spectator by beginning a regular trick and "counter" (or cancel) it halfway to its initial position. The key to a successful counter trick is to execute everything exactly as the real trick so that there is no way to distinguish the normal and the counter variant from just the first few instants of the trick. A more technical definition of counter tricks require the trick to have only one "real" push, which is the push of the regular trick. The second push, used to bring back the pen to its original position, must be fingerless (wrist or hand motion). Also, the pen must travel back to the original position using the same trajectory as the first part of the trajectory, but in reverse. An ideal counter trick should be symmetric; in other words, playing the video forward or backward should make no difference. All the videos below are filmed by Zombo and hosted by PenstudioZ. 1. Counter Thumbaround - 20/03/05 In this trick, the pen rotates around the thumb just like a regular thumbaround, but halfway through the trick, the pen is given a rotation in the opposite direction by stalling the pen between the thumb and the base of the index and jerking the hand in a motion similar to the fingerless thumbaround reverse. 2. Counter Reverse Thumbaround - 20/03/05 In this trick, the pen is pushed exactly like the reverse thumbaround, but the pen is stopped by lifting the thumb and giving a Fingerless Thumbaround-like push to the pen. Try doing it slowly (it's easier). 3. Counter Indexaround - 20/03/05 In this trick, the pen is pushed exactly like an indexaround. Once the pen is on top of the index finger, place your thumb over the second phalanx of your index and tilt your hand towards the right (Right-handed). The pen will enter in contact with the side of the thumb, and the friction will cause the pen to slow down. Afterwards, move your hand towards you to initiate the inverse rotation. 4. Counter Neo-Sonic (Indexaround Reverse) - 20/03/05 In this trick, the pen is pushed like a neo-sonic or an indexaround reverse (same thing). Then, fold the first two phalanxes of your index finger to squeeze the tip of the pen. Initiate the opposite rotation with a hand motion (and release the pen from your index finger). 5. Counter Infinity - 20/03/05 Start a normal infinity. When it is time to bring the pen back to the thumb, do as if you're passing the pen to 23 (like in a double infinity). However, never grab the pen with 23 and instead execute clockwise motion with your hand to finish the trick with the second half of the reverse infinity. 6. Counter Backaround - 20/03/05 In this trick, start normally with a backaround. Halfway through the trick, tilt your hand to the right (right-handed) and lift your index finger high. Using a hand motion, execute the push of the reverse backaround to bring the pen back. 7. Counter Sonic - 20/03/05 In this trick, begin by executing a regular sonic. When the pen is in contact with the top and bottom fingers (in the video: 13), execute a reverse charge top-bottom fingers (13) to bring back the pen to the bottom and middle fingers (23). |
