VirtualDub
- [filters]
This is a list of currently available video filters for VirtualDub, in addition to the ones
already built into the program. You can load
them either by clicking the Load... button under Video > Filters, or
alternatively you can copy the .VDF files into PLUGINS\ under the VirtualDub program
directory, which will cause them to be loaded at startup.
I cannot provide any warranty or take
responsibility for filters written by third parties. If you encounter stability or functionality
problems, please contact the respective authors for assistance.

Smart deinterlacer by Donald Graft
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Pressbox/8699/smart.html
Description: Selectively removes interlacing artifacts based on a motion thresholding algorithm
Supports batch operation: Yes
This filter is an adaptive deinterlacer; it performs deinterlacing operations only when necessary, so
that detailed, non-moving areas are not blurred. It also supports shifting fields by one frame
for correcting PAL video.
Deinterlace - area based by Gunnar Thalin
Homepage: http://home.bip.net/gunnart/video/
Description: Selectively removes interlacing artifacts based on an edge thresholding algorithm
Supports batch operation: No
This deinterlace filter works by detecting interlace edges within the same frame.
PAL deinterlacer by Gunnar Thalin
Download: http://home.bip.net/gunnart/video/
Description: Delays one field by one frame, to deinterlace PAL video.
Supports batch operation: No
Those of you who have encountered PAL video may be able to use this filter to remove
field delay, restoring progressive frames. It's not a general deinterlacer,
however.
Unsharp mask by Donald Graft
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Pressbox/8699/unsharp.html
Description: Performs a modified sharpening algorithm on the image
Supports batch operation: untested
A clone of the infamous Photoshop "Unsharp mask" filter.
Hue/Saturation/Intensity by Donald Graft
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Pressbox/8699/hue.html
Description: Applies color and tonal adjustments to the video
Supports batch operation: untested
Allows correction for slight color shifts in video; for instance, changing brightness without
affecting saturation like the levels filter does.
Smart smoother by Donald Graft
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Pressbox/8699/smooth.html
Description: Attempts to remove noise from an image without blurring.
Supports batch operation: untested
Useful for cleaning up video.
dynamic noise reduction by Steven Don
Download dnr.zip from sourceforge.net
Download dnr-source.zip from sourceforge.net
Description: Attempts to remove noise in an image without blurring.
Supports batch operation: No
Use this filter to reduce noise in video. It works by thresholding the image against the
previous frame, and selectively accumulating or freezing low-activity areas. The algorithm
for this filter has been integrated into VirtualDub as a fast capture filter.
2:1 vertical reduction by Chris LaRosa
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/cplarosa/video/
Description: Fast height-halving filter using non-overlapping 1x2 kernel.
Supports batch operation: Yes
This filter is similar to doing a 2:1 vertical reduce with the resize filter, except that the filtering kernel
does not overlap; this makes the 2:1 vertical reduction filter faster. As LaRosa points out,
this filter can be used for simple deinterlacing as well.
2D cleaner by Jim Casaburi
Homepage: http://home.earthlink.net/~casaburi/download/index.html
Description: Adaptive noise reduction filter using a 3x3 blur.
Supports batch operation: Yes
This filter reduces noise similarly to Steven Don's dynamic noise reduction filter, but this one works
spatially instead of temporally. Useful for cleaning up video.
Temporal cleaner by Jim Casaburi
Homepage: http://home.earthlink.net/~casaburi/download/index.html
Description: Adaptive noise reduction filter.
Supports batch operation: Yes
Another video filter that reduces noise by thresholding across frames.
Subtitler by Avery Lee
Download subtitler-1_3b.zip from sourceforge.net
Download subtitler-1_3b-src.zip from sourceforge.net
Description: Applies Sub Station Alpha v2.x/4.x scripts to video.
Supports batch operation: Yes
Updated: (V1.3b) Fixes multi-line wordwrap hang problem.
Pretty self-explanatory; handles most of the common features in SSA scripts. It has
text antialiasing, so your subtitles look good at small sizes.
Logo by Donald Graft
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Pressbox/8699/logo.html
Description: Overlays bitmaps on top of video frames
Supports batch operation: Yes
Use this to attach your own personal trademark to video.
Colorize by Donald Graft
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Pressbox/8699/colorize.html
Description: Adds color
Supports batch operation: Yes
I think the name says enough.
Frame tweaker by Chris LaRosa
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/cplarosa/video/
Description: Simple script-based frame editing operations.
Supports batch operation: Yes
This filter allows you to run a script on your video to mask selected frames, fade in/out, replicate, etc.
Useful for correcting specific flaws in video. Due to VirtualDub filter API restrictions, however, this
filter cannot move frames backward or change frame count.
Antiflicker by Donald Graft
Homepage: http://www.oocities.org/Colosseum/Pressbox/8699/flick.html
Description: Removes strobing effects from video
Supports batch operation: Yes
This filter is able to remove strobing effects, such as from a videotaped film projection.
Very impressive!
