Who are their digimon partners?

The eight digimon evolve with the help of the digivices and crests into more powerful digimons. The various stages or forms are: In-training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, Mega. Only two of the eight are able to evolve into their Mega forms though all of them are capable of doing so in the trading cards. Interestingly, all the digimon belonging to the girls; Sora, Hikari and Mimi; are all female :)

Koromon/ Agumon/ Greymon/ Metalgreymon/ Wargreymon

This dinosaur-like digimon belongs to Taichi. It breathes fire and becomes 'mechanised' in it's Ultimate and Mega forms, using missiles as part of its attack. It also gains the power of flight in these two forms.

Yokomon/ Biyomon/ Birdramon/ Garudamon

Sora owns this bird-like digimon. It also uses fire to battle but becomes a roc-like creature in it's Ultimate form, Garudamon. In its Champion form, Birdramon, it resembles a mix between a dinosaur and a phoneix, i.e. wings of fire.

Nyaromon/ Salamon/ Gatomon/ Angewomon

This digimon belongs to Hikari. It starts out as a cat-like digimon, becomes a cute puppy and becomes a cat-like creature again. It has the weakest and smallest Champion form, Gatomon. It's Ultimate form is in a form of a powerful female angel, Angewomon. (See page I for pic) It returns, along with Hikari, in the second season.

Motimon/ Tentomon/ Kabuterimon/ Megakabuterimon

This bug-like creature, belonging to Izumi, may look ugly and deformed but is actually very powerful. The Ultimate form, Megakabuterimon, is one of the biggest of the whole team's digimon.

Tsunomon/ Gabumon/ Garurumon/ Weregarurumon/ Metalgarurumon

Yamato owns this wolf-like digimon. It's the other digimon which can evolve to its Mega form, Metalgarurumon. It only gains the ability of flight in it's Mega form, while in it's Ultimate form, Weregarurumon, it looks like a mutated wolf-like humanoid, something like a werewolf minus a lot of hair.

Tokomon/ Patamon/ Angemon/ Magnaangemon

Takeru has one of the cuter digimons, Patamon. It looks like a cross between Dumbo, a rodent and a bat. It uses it's ears to fly and evolves into the angel-like, Angemon. (See page II for pic) The Ultimate form, Magnaangemon, is one of the most powerful digimon and evolves only in episode 50.

Bukamon/ Gomamon/ Ikkakumon/ Zudomon

This sea-lion-like digimon belongs to Jou. It's the only digimon that cannot fly in it's Ultimate form, Zudomon. It is also the only digimon that can swim since it is basically a water digimon, having no legs only flippers until it's Ultimate form. Zudomn is also the biggest digimon of the whole team

Tanemon/ Palmon/ Togemon/ Lillymon

Mimi owns this plant-like digimon. In the Champion form, Togemon resembles a walking cactus with boxing gloves. It uses the spikes to battle. The Ultimate form, Lillymon, is one of the weakest within the group and has been defeated several times in the series.

Why watch Digimon???

I did mention before in my CCS (Card Captor Sakura) review that Digimon is one of the better anime available on local TV. The graphics are relatively good, especially when the digimons evolve and during the battles. The theme songs (both at the start and at the end) are very catchy and appeals to me. I make it a point to at least record it every Sunday morning in case I overslept (which is quite common :)

The storyline in each episode is engaging and do provide underlying morals other than the usual good-vs.-bad themes. It also stresses on things like friendship, responsibilities and love. However, there have been message boards set up on the web cursing the show for depicting angels (Angemon and Angewomon) fighting evil beings (Devilmon) which are not exactly biblical in nature and a bad influence on the children.

Personally, this is a anime, for heaven's sake. There are more violent and gory shows are there that can influence a child and I'm sure an episode of Crimewatch will frighten the little tots more than an episode of Digimon! Anyway, the first season is ending in a couple of weeks time on TCS 8 and here's hoping that TCS will bring in the second season!

Note: TCS 8 is repeating the first season on every Sunday morning at 9 am since 22 Apr 2001.
