GREATER CHICAGO SOAP BOX DERBY CARS

All races that are held by the Greater Chicago Soap Box Derby Association are sanctioned by the All-American Soap Box Derby located in Akron, Ohio. Therefore all cars that participate in our races must be approved by All-American Soap Box Derby. There are 3 types of cars that can be purchased and raced. Please look over the 3 types of cars to help you in determining which car is most likely to accomidate your driver. Stock Car

The Stock car is designed for the entry level driver. Driver and combined weight is 200 lbs. Participants must be 8 years old by the date of the first Rally or Local race in which they participate. Participants may race through age 17, but they must not turn 18 years old on or before August 1 of the current racing year. The stock car is available in a variety of colors. Assembly time is 4 - 6 hours, no painting is allowed.The kit does not come with wheels, helmet, or weights they must be ordered seperately. Weights can be made or bought from somewhere other than AASBD. The kit comes with all hardware. Basic tools are required for assembly.

Super Stock Car

The super stock car is designed for the experienced racer and will also accomodate a bigger driver. Driver and combined weight of the car is 230 lbs. Participants must be 8 years old by the date of the first Rally or Local race in which they participate. Participants may race through age 17, but they must not turn 18 years old on or before August 1 of the current racing year. This car can be painted if the driver wants too, but is not required. The kit does not come with wheels, helmet, or weights they must be ordered seperately. Weights can be made or bought from somewhere other than AASBD. The kit comes with all hardware. Basic tools are required for assembly. Assembly time is similar to the stock stock car, but will be greater due to the painting factor.

Master Division/Scotty Car

The Scotty car is designed for the seasoned driver and builder. Participants must be 10 years old by the date of the first Rally or Local race in which they participate. Participants may race through age 17, but they must not turn 18 years old on or before August 1 of the current racing year. Driver and car combined weight is 255 lbs. This a kit that will require the purchase of additional parts. The construction time for this car is considerably greater than the other cars. The skill level in the construction of this car is also much greater than the other cars. Please download the rules/directions for this car from here before you purchase this car.
