Albert Cairrel Slack
Hello, you have come to the page of my father, Albert Cairrel Slack. My Daddy was a Naval Aviator in WWII. He fought in the Phillippines and served on the Aircraft Carriers the Hornet and the Essex. He was a member of VF15 and fought for the United States with honor. He is a member of the Navy Aces and his name appears on the Naval Aces list in the Navy Museum. Daddy passed away right before his 50th Anniversary Reunion of his fighter sqaudron and Mother sent my brother, Robert, my sister, Sally and myself to San Diego, California. We had a wonderful time meeting the buddies that Daddy served with and hearing the tales of their experiences. We all just wished Daddy had been there himself. He loved those guys and they all loved him. We all miss him terribly! But we know that he rests in the Lord's hands now!

This is what my Daddy and Mother did for their retirement. What fun we all had in their motorhome!

This is what my Daddy loved to do! He loved to ride that forklift at the lumber yard!
Taps was played at Daddy's funeral and was just beautiful! We miss you Daddy! You are our hero! God Bless You!
This is my dad and me in February, 1995 celebrating my 48th birthday. He died in August, 1995.
This is Daddy when he was a young man. He was the #1 seat in the Lufkin High School band. He could play just about any kind of instrument in the band, but he loved the coronet. When I was a little girl I remember him playing a harmonica and an accordian.

This page is dedicated to all the men in our family and other families who served in World War II. Daddy's brother, Leslie Slack, spent time in a German POW camp and a brother-in-law, Doyle Bruce, performed his duty in New Guinea. the youngest brother, Billy, served his country in the Korean conflict. As a family, my cousins and I are very proud of our Dads and the service they gave to our country. God Bless You All!
How Lucky We Are!
When my boys were small they loved to ride the forklift with their Pepaw, which is what they called Daddy! He was a wonderful father and grandfather. All of his children, Sally, Robert and myself; his grandchildren, Cliff, Brex, Rebecca, Matt, Sarah, John Wiley and his great-grandson, Casey, loved him very much. He spent time with each of us and we all came to know him as man who was very principled, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Our daddy could build or fix anything! He was a talented musician and played the coronet as a young man. He also had perfect pitch and could sing many parts. He taught singing schools when I was a young girl. He was one of the only people I knew in the whole world who could read shape notes! We all miss him so much but we are all so thankful that we had him as long as we did!
Albert Slack loved his family and his Lord above all things. We, in turn, loved him. In the many talks we have had since daddy's passing, we have reaffirmed that we are a very blessed and fortunate family. Our parents have shown us committment to our Lord Jesus Christ and to one another. We each know that we are so fortunate to have had Albert Slack as our father and Alta Jordan Slack as our mother. When God handed out parents, he did a bang up job for us! Thanks, Momma and Daddy!
