Military Annals of Tennessee Part One The beginning to Chickamauga |
|||||||
The following regimental history is from the two volume, Confederate Military Annals of Tennessee. These books where compiled in 1886, by editor John Berrien Lindsley. Basically what he had done was have a former member of each Confederate Tennessee Infantry Regiment write a brief history of their regiment. He then gathered these together and edited the together in the two volumes set. The following history of the 6th Tennessee Infantry Regiment was written by Robert Gates who served as a private in Company H, until he was promoted. A lot of what is written are his own stories and the recollections of fellow members of the 6th. Because of the size of the history we had to break it into two parts. Part one covers the regiment from its start to the battle of Chickamauga. Part two covers the post Chickamauga period through to the end of the war. Part two also includes a brief roster of the soldiers that were killed or died in each company. The roster is not complete, as it is written from memories of the participants. |
