This was yet another of my well planned trips. Well okay it wasn't well planned! At the time, flights direct from Scotland to Canada were incredibly cheap and I managed to get a flight from Glasgow to Vancouver for a mere £170 return. After a bit of searching I managed to track down a holiday for two of the three weeks I was there. Trek America's two week Mountie trip seemed to fit the bill. After a couple of days in Victoria on Vancouver Island, staying at a Travellers Inn I took the ferry down to Seattle and joined the trip. Victoria should be on everyone's list of places to visit in the region, plenty to do and see, including the chance to Whale Watch. Trek America is limited to 18 to 38 year olds and the emphasis is very much on doing things as a group, which in our case worked out fine. Highlights included bear spotting (we managed to see one, early morning), travelling up the Glacier Parkway from Banff to Jasper and going on an overnight canoe trip in Wells Grey Provincial Park. The two weeks passed very quickly and a good time was had by all, but a lot of drink was consumed - this might not be everyone's cup of tea. I then travelled back to Victoria with three of the people on the bus and then onto Vancouver to get my return flight - it possible to use public transport (ferries/buses) in this part of US/Canada, but still much more hassle than in Europe. As spectacular part of the world - just look at the photos! |
