JOURNAL FAQ |
Q: Why did you start the school journal? A: To show the world the way athests are treated by conservative types and what life in the Bible Belt is really like for people like me. Q: When did you graduate? A: May of 2002, but I didn't attend the ceremony. Q: What is the point of complaining every time someone prays? A: It does seem like I gripe about the smallest things in the journal. If you really want to know why, it helps to understand the very negative atmosphere of Enterprise. Even the smallest events seem like they're done out of spite for the First Amendment. Anytime I went to school, I always felt as if the whole place was going to explode with religous fervor (sometimes it did). Q: Is your school typical of schools in Mississippi? A: Actually, no. I understand there are many that are even worse. Q: Is all of this really for real? A: Yes. I portray all events in my journal exactly as they happened (or as I remember them, since I don't make these entries the second this stuff happens). Q: Who exactly are Ray and Brandon? A: Ray and Brandon were two friends of mine when I was in high school. Ray was a Deist, Brandon a Christian of sorts. We were labeled as "freaks" by the other students, so we used to hang out by ourselves and make fun of them. Q: Does the school have a website? A: Yes it does! Be warned though, the site is about as well-maintained as Brandon's Chevy Cavalier (in joke, kiddies, you wouldn't understand). ;) Q: How long have you had these problems? A: Ever since around the 5th grade. I wasn't an atheist then, but when my classmates discovered I believed in evolution, I was immediately branded as one, and "monkey boy" became my nickname. I was at first offended, but I soon took the name on as a badge of pride (they stopped calling me that soon after). I've dealt with simple teasing to fights and even recieved death threats in junior high (which is pre-journal, nothing in here is even close to that serious). Q: Half the time you complain about these events, yet sometimes you seem to almost enjoy it. What's the deal with that? A: Generally I'd prefer that these things didn't happen (it was even a little scary sometimes), but I can be mischeivous sometimes and do have something of a millitant streak, so sometimes I would find myself hoping something would happen just to break the day-to-day monotony (and give me something to write about). |
When I started my site back in March of 2000, one of its original features was this school journal. It's basically the only thing on my site that has remained unchanged (aside from one or two cliparts on my main page). Though I'm no longer in school, I plan on keeping the archive of the school journal. Send me feedback at: |
