Sailor Moon Merchandise |
As any big Moonie may know, the Sailor Moon comic series, and tv show series (not to mention the movies and live action musicals), have launched many, many, MANY different kinds of Sailor Moon goods. Some of the items for sale are the usual that are sold in this kind of series. Dolls, magazines, stickers, coloring books, etc. But, there are some items that are a bit more unusual. Sailor Moon Spaghetti-O's, cooking utensils, underwear, etc. Below are some examples of the different items that are out on today's market, or that were sold in the past. |
Artbooks that were sold in Japan in the mid-nineties are a serious collector's item nowadays. These books have wonderful full page manga drawings of the scouts, and some have full head to toe profile drawings, or mini comics included. Prices are usually between 30 and 50 US dollars. |
This is the artbook I own. It has lots of watercolor drawings of Usagi, and comes with a pull out poster! =) |
Along with manga artbooks, there are anime styled ones. These have detailed descriptions of a set of episodes, and also come with interviews with Naoko and the characters' voice actors. I've seen them sell for between 20 and 30 US dollars. |
I love this anime book! It is from the first season, and has lots of recaps of some of my favorite first season episodes. |
What SM fan doesn't own all the episodes on video tapes? Here is a video sold in many stores for around 5-10 dollars. This is one from the first season, but now you can also buy videos from the S and SuperS seasons. I'm not sure if they sell the R season or not, but most people (like me) have recorded them all off of tv. The Stars season isn't even out in dubbed english yet, but you can find the subtitled tapes online or in local comic stores. Frankly, I don't know if I would want them to dub Stars... it's wonderful the way it is. |
Sailor Moon clothing is sort of hard to come by, except for t-shirts. Swimsuits, socks, jackets, hats, sweatshirts, and costumes are just some of the things that you can find on special online stores or comic shops. Prices depend on how rare the item is. An example: Hats usually sell for around 15 - 20 dollars, while costumes, depending on their detail can range anywhere from 20 to even 100 dollars. I myself own four Sailor Moon shirts, which I don't even wear (I'm trying to keep them looking new hehe), but unfortunately, I don't own a costume. =( |
This Sailor Moon bust is GORGEOUS! I have no idea who made this, but it is obviously a very nice collector's item... at least in my eyes. SM statues and models are a great addition to anyone's collection. Unlike the plush or 11 1/2 inch dolls, they can look more like the Senshi you see on the show. Some of the models are quite expensive though. I've seen some at an anime convention, and no one would buy them because of their high price tag, even if they were beautiful. In Japan, there were mini models that you could put together. They came with a holographic card, and a small candy, and sold for very little. The Super Sailor Moon one I have isn't as realistic as the more expensive statues, and it does tend to fall apart sometimes, but it is still more true to the character's looks than the Barbie-sized dolls. Another thing many fans may own are the chibi sized figures. They sell for around 4 dollars, and are very kawaii! |
The button games are one of the few Sailor Moon games that were put on the market. They come with one enemy and one Sailor pin, that are numbered. To play, you have to have several different numbered die. I haven't actually played this myself, but I'm sure it's fun. The CCG (Collectible Card Game) of Sailor Moon is a lot of fun once you get the knack of mastering the moves. There are hundreds of cards to collect, including the highly collectible Level 4 Sailor cards or the main enemy cards. Starter decks come with many cards, a Sailor or two, and a couple of strong villians. They also have three different colored stones, which you set on top of a card to indicate the damage it has received. The colors are yellow, red, and blue. If you haven't tried this game out yet, I suggest you do so. Probably the most highly popular game of SM is the RPG (Role Playing Game). There is an RPG and Resource book, but most RPGs are online, or at local anime clubs, and the rules are decided between the players. You can have an unlimited number of characters and players involved, and the storyline possibilities are endless. If you like to think up your own Sailor Moon adventures, an RPG is for you. |
Sailor Moon music cds are abundant overseas. You can find all sorts of albums for all of the seasons of the show, or Christmas albums to get you in the spirit. Some have songs sung by the Japanese voice actors. These albums are pretty hard to come by. I suggest you search for them on eBay, or another online anime source. There are, unfortunately, only 2 English SM music cds. 'Lunarock' and 'Songs From the Hit TV Series'. They can be bought at Media Play, or at almost any other music store or website. |
You watch the Senshi battle on TV with those super cool weapons of theirs, and think to yourself; "Now wouldn't it be cool if I had one of those?", don't you? Well, you CAN get some, but they are plastic and have no super powers at all. Nada. Zip. Unless of course, you count the flashing lights and sound effects they have. In the US, I have only seen The Moon Scepter, Moon Wand, Transforming Brooch (Moon's) and the Star Locket sold. I could have missed some, but I doubt I did. In Japan though, they sold every transformer and weapon for pretty much every Senshi. Example: The cool little Starlight transformer and weapon set over there> You're best bet at getting either of these is eBay. |
Much better than boring old wallpaper, wall scrolls and posters are a great way to decorate your walls. They come in many different designs (like my favorite, the black Stars scroll shown here) and are actually quite affordable. They can be very large though, so make plenty of space for them, and be careful because the scrolls are made of cloth, and can rip or stain. |
