Breast
Cancer Research Semipostal FDC Collection
The Crusade Against Cancer stamp was issued
on April 1, 1965. "Early Diagnosis Saves Lives" is the theme illustrated
by Stevan Dohanos when he designed this three color, Giori-printed commemorative
stamp. The image was engraved by J. S. Creamer Jr. and includes a
stethoscope and microscope, two important tools of the medical profession.
The "M" numbers used to identify these
covers were created by Michael Mellone and come from his book "Mellone's
Specialized Cachet Catalog of First Day Covers of the 1960's Volume II".
This catalog is part of a series created by Michael Mellone, all of which
are wonderful resources for the FDC collector. However, they were
only meant to be a starting place. Many items are not listed in his
catalogs. Some of the uncataloged material can be found at the bottom
of this page.
As you can see, I'm missing several cachets
identified by Mellone. If you have any information, or know where
I might obtain these covers, please drop me a line. I'm very interested
in completing my collection.
